The ear wax candle didn't do much just flashed and fizzled a little. It's probably on youtube.
That is one of many things I can say that I would rather not taste it does not look to appealing to me but I suppose each to there own.0 -
My mum used to make candles in the 70s. She used to make "gappy" ones where she put ice cubes in the mould and poured the wax over. They came out sort of delicate and lacy. She also used to use the top of the funnel, bunging up the spout of the funnel with plasticine and then pouring in the wax to make a conical candle.
Happy memories

i have been hunting here for a thread on this too - i made a teacup candle this morning only had basic stuff - used a pot and jamjar to melt the wax in, had a cup and saucer that i had herbs in previously ( bought set of two homebargains for £2.49 pink floral) and had bought the wicks and keepers looked great until it set and then it "dipped" in the middle - any suggestions why this happened? then i made another two in tin plant pots and they are a bit bubbly on the top - are you supposed to let the wax cool slightly before pouring or am i pouring it too quick (dont want to waste more wax) any help really appreciated - will see if cant post pics
cant post pics as they are back in the pot!!!! seemingly the dipping happens and i should have kept some wax back to top it up! love the idea of ones in the funnel mmmmm where can i get one at this time???

i have about 15 nearly empty jars of Yankee candles and the wax is too low for the wick to burn.
have scraped all the bits into 1 large jar, but would like to know how to melt the lot down........in a pan?
a local shop sells the wick bits, so hopefully i can make one full jar for pennies, rather than the £18 a new Yankee costs.
any one offer advise here please?0 -
This is how i do it - not H&S compliant however.
I put my candle bits in an old pan and melt them on a very gentle heat, i have candle moulds and wicks and just pour the melted wax in the moulds and they dry up very quickly. The proper and safer way is to melt the candle bits using the bain-marie method. I try and keep the bits colour matched rather than mixing all the colours together as it looks like sludge then! You're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *0 -
would it be safe to pour the wax, cooled down a bit, back into the glass jar to set?0

I was afraid to try it TBH and put the melted wax in metal moulds. When set i just tip them out - these one are votive sizes.
The problem is, when it cools its sets if you see what i mean! You're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *0 -
I melted my old wax tarts in a empty tuna tin placed in a frying pan of boiling water on the hob - then used it to make HM fire lighters! They were awesome!!!0

thank you, gonna try the bain marie method this weekend...... will let you know how they come out0

If the bits of wax are the same colour, or you don't mind them all mixed togther, then put all the bits into the jar that you want to use for the candle. Then place it into a bain-marie to melt the wax, the glass will stand the heat as long as it doesn't touch the heat directly, then take it off the heat when it is all melted and add the wick.
