SIM card advice

I need to source a CHEAP SIM card for my 86 year old father, who is house-bound & blind.
As his main phone is a BT land-line he needs a card which he can top up as & when required without losing unused credit after a certain period. He also needs to be able to top up with a minimal amount (say £5).
I realise this may be a tall order, but somebody must be able to help him?

Giffgaff.com if you can get the O2 signal or Lebara.com0

Sorry, I obviously didn't make it clear enough!
Unless I'm missing something, Giffgaff & the other one? only offer a pay monthly card - Dad needs to be able to make occasional, random top-ups as & when it becomes necessary.
Hope this is clearer!0 -

Have you looked around yourself?
3 offers credit until it expires, but the top up is £10, perhaps you could help your dad by paying at least the difference :cool:0 -
Most providers have a 180 day rule for expiring credit (i.e. it expires if no call is made for 180 days), but some providers are shorter, e.g. 90 days for Virgin, 84 days for Lebara.
In my opinion icardmobile is worth looking at (as they use the Vodafone 900 Mhz band signal which often gives a better indoor signal strength than others who use the 1800 Mhz band). Of course this might vary for different areas.0 -

giffgaff is pay and go. They do bundles you can buy if you want, but they are optional. Normally you just top-up and then pay per minute or text.
This is the same with all the big providers, check their websites.0 -
If it is only for use in the house and he already has a BT landline, then why not get a cordless phone which he can carry around the house like a mobile.0

You can get phones now that have 2 handsets - so a main stable one - and then 2 handsets that are wireless.. we have one on charge - and one avaliable to use...
else just get a normal £10 sim and make sure a text is sent once a month?0 -
I recommend giffgaff.
Very cheap rates 8p call 4p text etc.
