hi everyone
i was wondering if anyone may be able to help me?
resently i have been having problems with my computer and have had to re boot it several times the last time i rebooted it there appeared to be parts of the program for my computer missing like no directx etc no sound no standby when i am going to turn off my computer, etc.
i dont know if other programmes are missing.
my question is is there only a certain amount of times i can reboot my computer with the reboot disc i got?
also have seen different programmes that you can buy on the internet that say i have x amount of software/hardware missing when i have scanned my computer for free with them, are they to be trusted and if so would you recommened any particular type or should i get a new reboot disc?
hope someone maybe able to help.
cheers

Goto to the manufacturers website and download the sound drivers for your machine, and also try https://www.windowsupdate.com
PS reboot means to shutdown and restart the computer, reinstall or rebuild is the term for wiping it and reinstalling the operating system.
You can do it as much as you like.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

thanks for your quick reply, in my case i have reinstalled my computer,so it does not matter how many times i do this then?
if that is the case why does it appear my computer has missing software/hardware the last time i tried to do it?0 -
XP doesn't include every driver for every piece of hardware out there, especially if the hardware is newer than the disc, so you would have to go to the manufacturers site to download the drivers for bit of hardware that aren't recognised by XP.
If you do start, run, devmgmt.msc and look for anything with question marks/exclamation marks/red crosses at the side, then you probably need to download the drivers for those bits of hardware. They may appear in the other devices section.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
cheers albertross will have a look at that and see what it says0

if it is a branded pc, go to the manufacturers website and download sound, video, and modem drivers for it.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

If you have a genuine boot disk, try going to MS Update - do a custom scan.
When finished, look over on the left of screen, for the optional software and then the Hardware drivers, MS may pick up some for you. Select them and then install.
You will get Direct X as well here

Try this site http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/advent/advidx.htm
Seems your disk may have the drivers on it - this seems to be on most of the models' details
Reinstalling applications
From version 2.x of the recovery system onwards you can install applications from the c:\applications folder. Drivers can be installed from the c:\applications\drivers folder and utilities from the c:\applications\tools folder. You will still need to install Microsoft Works from the supplied CD.
