We buy the whole filleted salmon (no skin or head) at around £10 each and slice them up to make 2 portion packs for the freezer.

The Olive Oil is cheap - especially when an offer is on. There are some great packs of mustard (french) - 3 jars (think is 2 jars of wholegrain and one dijon ..or is it the other way round). Because we make our own wine we buy big bags of sugar ... the large bags of raisins and sultanas are good too.

You do need to watch the prices on some tinned goods as some can be bought on BOGOF cheaper in the supermarkets.

Treseme shampoo and conditioner is very cheap if you are prepared to use the hairdresser sized dispensers. We've had ours for a year and are only half way down these.

I buy dishwasher tablets & washing powder, bottles of water, cheese (5 individually wrapped mozzarella balls for £1.75), tortilla wraps, huge packs of mince which I portion out & freeze, shampoo, toothpaste, razor blades for OH, giant bottles of Tabasco (we use it a lot!), tins of tomatoes, tins of coconut milk & illy coffee (£5.75 for 2 tins, much cheaper than the £3.99 each in the supermarket). Hot chickens are nice if you're in a rush, but so far I've resisted the temptation to buy a whole tray of muffins! You can buy them individually from the cafe - 50p each. CDs/DVDs can be quite cheap too.

:T :j Just got back from Costco and my usual buys are casserole steak, sirloin and fillet steak(never tasted better in any good restaurant and all my friends agree). The salmon is good value as someone mentioned. All I do is cut up steaks etc and freeze in relevant amounts to last for ever!

I think you're friend would need a big van for the bargains you can get. At the minute they have a lot of gardening furniture and bits in and some of it is good value but if you want something different they're good as well.

I think you realise that we could go on and on.

I' can't bring myself to buy the big tray of Danish as I would not be able to resist. But bought the pan aue chocolat for hubby with his morning coffee, I won't be tempted as I can't eat chocolate!

    PS the Pizza's are delicious.

    Cheers

You can freeze the danishes individually so you need to plan when you'll eat them! They take about 20 minutes to defrost ;).

I'm not keen on the pizzas you bake at home as the base is too thick. The ones they bake in store are the best ever though. Luckily our nearest Costco is 5 minutes away so we use it as our take-away. The chicken bakes are scrummy too.

I buy minced steak, chicken breasts, potato scones (36 for just over £1), trays of muffins, scones and pastries, wraps, fairy dishwasher tablets ( comes in packets of 4 boxes - been using them for over a year!), boxes of mixed greeting cards ( handmade style) 30 for just over £10, but always well received! Also soap powder ,majonaisse, shoulder steak, the list is endles really! Their meat is excellent value and great quality. Bakery trays are yummy - cant resist - which is why I need weight watchers!

After posting earlier I went and stood in my pantry and looked up at the top shelves ... some of my Costco 'buys' stored there are:

    Caster sugar
    Granulated sugar
Huge containers of virgin olive oil
    Large containers of tomato ketchup
Tins of mackrel in tomato sauce
Large bottles of Lea & Perrins
    Jars of mustard
    A large container of rice
Lots of Spices and Herb (really good value these)
The freebie 10 packs of 2 kitchen rolls that were on offer recently if you bought the toilet rolls

    In my freezer:

3 salmon cut into two person portions
A goats cheese - again cut into 2 person portions
A large block of cheddar cheese - cut into a 'weeks worth' of cheese at a time

I have to say I always go to Costco with good intentions (every 3 or 4 months) but spend £200 at a time. It's worse when DD2 comes with us!

However, I have to say in my defence, that all this is cheaper than supermarket prices and is part of basic cooking range. The salmon works out at about £1 per meal for 2 people. I just pop 2 slices on foil, sprinke with lemon juice and pepper and pop in the oven for 20 mins. Serve with stir fried veg or a salad.
