slow cooker... should I...

    i love mine so much, it stays on the worktop all the time, i told my mum who bought one and loves it, my two sons each have one, as they love stews etc, my best friend bought one, and used it once or twice and then didnt bother, but they dont really eat home cooked food anyway

    My mum found a slow cooker recipe book in a charity shop. You can even cook cakes in them! What I can recall, you cook a fruit loaf in a loaf tin. You put a plate upside down at the bottom, then place the loaf tin. Then fill the pot with water. Never tried it.

    I love mine. So long as you like meat and or veg in a gravy style sauce i.e. stew, curry, chilli, casserole you'll love it. Sausage in a spicy harissa sauce is my favourite, but I have to say, although I'm not a good cook I have had nothing but success with the slow cooker.
  • Although we don't use our slow cooker all that often, it is a great investment, not least of all because it makes an excellent bread bin!

    Mine gets regular use in the winter for stews. Slow cookers make outstanding Christmas puddings.

    I find it great - not only for the fact that it makes week-night meals easier, but also because it is not so time sensitive as normal cooking for things like joints.. it's very difficult to overcook in one.
    I've also done baked potatoes in them, although they don't get as crispy.

    Also, in winter I like steamed puds, but never do them because it takes too long on a week-night, but you can apparently steam them by putting water in and standing the basin on something in it (which you would do in a saucepan anyway). Just think how much easier it would be at Christmas if the pudding could be left safely on the corner to steam whilst you do the rest of the meal on the cooker.

    I am far from organised and prob the worst/ laziest cook in the world but this little pot is fantastic. A few minutes prep in the morning might be a faff but not as much as having to cook a meal from scratch after a days work.

    I love to open the front door and smell my dinner!

    I bought a small one last week from Argos half price at £6.49.. (to cook the dog's dinner in!!!)

    Cooking chicken and chorizo stew in my new slow cooker. It is a bit weird not having to keep stiring something! tastes and smells divine :)

    Definitely worth investing in one. I use mine, nearly all the time autumn/winter, and still use now for pasta sauces, fish, etc.
