After two weeks of struggling with BF with my first, I bought the manual tommee tippee for £15 - but it was such hard work that 2 days later I bought the avent electric one for £80 my baby had shredded me that badly I expressed every feed for the next three weeks. Couldn't have managed without an electric one, and even though I used it for a relatively short space of time without it that would have been the end of BFing for me.

After that I got her back on and never expressed after that. BF for 16 months, with my second I've not bothered expressing as it is time consuming and I found messed up my milk supply so I was leaking constantly. My second is now 12 months.

I had the tommee tippee microwave steriliser, but only used it for three weeks whilst expressing as I BF both mine for so long I had no real need for it, but it only cost £10 from TK MAXX
    OPs so far £42,139

    I've been Money Tipped!
I'd also vote for electric - whatever electric is better IMO than a good manual. Manuals are really hard work and made me feel even more depressed when I wasn't enjoying Bfeeding and the manual pump didn't get an ounce out of me.

I had medela mini electric - would go for medela swing were I doing it again. Avent Iq electric also has good reviews - it "learns" your rhythm making it even easier for you.

Always a bargain to be had - Tesco currently has avent iq 1/3 off. Tesco also goes through phases of reducing medela pumps too.

I used the Medela Swing and found it to be sooooooo much easier than a handheld pump and a lot quicker too. One thing to keep in mind that my health visitor told me is that it is the feeds in the early hours of the morning that stimulate breast milk production, so if dad is giving baby a bottle of expressed milk unfortunately you still have to get up and express then too. Damn sight easier to let the machine do the hard work for you if you have to be up at stupid-o'clock anyway.

Sorry, forgot to say I really highly recommend Lansinoh for sore and chapped nipples.

Definitely electric over manual! The Medela Swing gets the best reviews, although I have the Tommee Tippee one which although noisy works just fine.

I hated breastfeeding, felt I wasn't producing enough milk, it HURT etc..., but 8 months later, a LOT of perseverance, and still going! I use the pump still to ease the pressure now DS is dropping feeds and opting for food instead.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
