  • Whereas, if you clip a cat's claws wrong, you're the one more likely to have the wounds.....:D

haha very true! thankfully mine arent prone to attack but have a weird habit of trying to climb up my legs if im on the toilet which hurts and is quite freaky to be honest:eek:

Mine never went out much (their choice) so I used to trim their claws, you just nip off the very tips, not really trim them down. They still have claws for when they want them and mine could still climb about just as much. If you do it from when they are young they quickly get used to it. If you press the toe pads in the right way then the claws pop right out for you. If might be a good idea to try popping their claws in and out a few times without trying to trim, just to get them used to being handled like that. Mine never twitched a whisker.

Just thought I'd let you know that I bought a claw clipper from Zooplus and trimmed Friday's claws. She was reasonably OK about it, only a bit fidgety. But it all went well, and she now has lovely claws that don't dig into me as she scoops up my back to sit on my shoulders :T I did have lessons from my Bengal breeder (a vet) so I am all prepared for when I get my two little fluffballs home at the end of this month. ;)

I do my cat's - but she's an indoor only cat so hers don't half grow like needles! Used to have pet clippers but they broke so she just gets the human nail clippers and the very very very tips of them nipped off in order to preserve our legs as legs and not pincushions.

She loves the attention - but she's a right cuddle kitten anyway so it's not surprising really. I've always stroked her and massaged her paws though so she's very very used to being handled there.

  • I trim all three of my indoor cats claws - only one of them actually likes it ! Have you seen the claw covers you get can though now ? A bit like false nails for cats ? They are non toxic and last for about a month or so, you can get them in lots of different colours too. I thought they would be good for indoor cats - has anyone else tried these ? x

Interesting! I've never heard of these! How do you put them on? (sorry if that's a silly question  )

I am not admitting to anything....

....like her Majesty jumping onto my lap, then onto my shoulders when I am sitting in a certain place for a length of time.....

(I do mutter 'I leave you alone when you're on your litter tray, why can't I get the same from you?' but she just settles down on the cistern/my shoulder and smiles.

Quite alarming if it's the middle of the night and you haven't bothered to switch any lights on when you reach over for the roll and get met by a bundle of fur )

I have them for Socks in brigh pink so I can see when they come off (found one is DS2's bed tonight so I guess I need to find her and have a manicure...). She came to us as an adult indoor cat but has no carpet or sofa skills at all, so they really have saved the carpet :o . There's always a lot of interest at the vets!

I very occassionally used to snip the end off my cat's dew claw as they don't wear them down as much.

He used to see me coming with the nail clippers and fold his feet underneath him:rotfl:
