Do you trim your cats claws?

Yup, usually when they start click-clacking across the room like they're wearing stilettos. Nail clipper, cat on the lap, easy. I leave the front ones these days as they might need them for self defence.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0

My beautiful old girl Lucy is a bit slower than she used to be, and gets her claws all snaggled up in the bed clothes and jumpers and stuff. This sometimes causes her discomfort and she cries out (Its awful) Vet says its cos they can't retract their claws as quickly when they get old.
I'm guessing trimming wouldnt really help ?0 -

From what others have said on here, it might not do any harm? But on the other hand, if it would help that specific condition, then I am assuming that the vet would have suggested it.0 -
I clip my old cat Jade every few weeks.. she's 21 now and they can't retract their claws as they age so it does sound like stilettos on the wooden floors and she catches them in the sofa as she climbs/hauls herself up.. so I clip them with ordinary nail clippers she doesn't mind a bit now and just sits on my lap while I clip away..
The first time I did it I found one nail that was digging into her pad she must of been so uncomfortable but wasn't limping or biting so I didn't realise till I went to clip it.. I had to very carefully clip the point and then pull the piece out that had pierced her pad with tweezers I had no idea they were that bad. I felt sooooooooooo bad for her..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Here's a video of quite a well-behaved Bengal having their claws trimmed that I just came across on You Tube:

I trim my cat's claws (nearly said nails there!) just when I notice they need done, not in a specific routine. He is an indoor cat only, due to blindness and other illnesses from when he was abused as a kitten, and the vet recommended he was kept in always right from the start.
So since he's not climbing trees etc his claws can get too long and sharp. when I hear him clacking across the floor it's time for a trim
I flip him over on his back on my lap and chat away to him while clipping and he just lies there like a head of state accepting his due worship!! He's not so good letting me brush him though...he keeps trying to eat the comb lolcarpe diem

I trim my cat's. As he's getting older he stays in more and climbs fewer trees so he's not using his claws as much.
I noticed that he sometimes got his claws caught on fabric, so started taking off just a couple of mm. So long as I'm quick and do it as part of a cuddle, he's fine with it.
Even if you don't trim them, it's worth periodcally checking them anyway. My last cat had broken a couple of 'fingers' in his days as a stray. He couldn't flex them so he didn't use the claws and I had to keep an eye out for them ingrowing.0 -

It's only as she has gotten older that I've needed to have her claws trimmed at all.
Same here, Winston goes to the vets to have his done. He has only needed it since getting on in years as the muscles that retract his claws are not as strong and he is forever getting his claws stuck in the sofa0
