Citronella is the active ingredient in citrus peel that puts them off and can be bought in little bottles. Alternatively (although more expensive) change the grade of gravel in your yard to one that is a) larger or b) sharper. If you think reality makes sense, you're just not paying attention!0

i used to have 5 cats in my younger stupid days lol but our cats never "went" in our garden but all the neighbours cats did and someone told me to place mothballs around the gargen.you can buy them for under a £1 from local chemists and half bury therm so they dont roll away.we always found that worked great
my mum had same problem but this didnt work as well for her
would be worth trying

Garlic is the cheapest way I have found and it works. We live in an area that has a few cats and they loved to use my garden as a litter tray, no more.
So anyways just buy some cloves of garlic, chop it into small bits (small as you can) then sprinkle round the garden. I assure you it works, it has for me and we never get cats in our garden. The smell of the garlic is strong, hence why the cats wont use it as a litter tray.
You may have to redo it again in a few months if another cat decides to use your garden but I dont find that a problem, soon as I see a cats been in my garden I treat the area and hey presto cats go somewhere else.0
