IF I am awarded DLA, what else is affected?

Hi I currently have an application in for DLA, and I know its not likely to be awarded it, but IF it is what other benefits are affected? I would be looking at getting more the mobility element then the care element. I live with my fiance and our 2 pre-school age children in a council tenancy. I do not work, and my fiance works full time. We currently receive a small amount of child tax credits and our child benefits.
Would we be entitled to any housing/council tax benefits, or a rise in tax credits?
Ideas,help and advice always welcome, judgements and assumptions are not!!

    Wrong, totally wrong, less google and more understanding of the rules needed.

    You will not get more tax cridits unless you work, ignore the previous post.

    Well partner works, so you will be entitled to extra child tax credits.

    However, any increase will affect your HB. Although they dont take DLA into account, they will with any tax credit increase.

    Dont talk daft, a parent getting DLA certainly wont increase child tax credits!

    And because they only recieve a small amount of child tax credits the chance of even the highest award of both DLA componants will have zero affect on what they recieve.

    so explain why my tax credits have increased then when i notified them of my daughters DLA award, and the payment were backdated?
    Obviously, the rules are different indeed if the adult is getting DLA.

    How much is CTC?

    Maximum child tax credit is calculated using "elements". You get whichever elements apply to you and your family. The amount of CTC you actually receive depends on your income. The elements and the yearly amounts are:
    • a family element (£545) - paid to all eligible families;
    • a child element (£2555) - for each child within the family, including those under one year;
    • a disabled child element ( £2800) - for each child within the family on disability living allowance (DLA) or who is registered blind;
    • a severely disabled child element (£1130) - for each child within the family on the highest rate care component of DLA.
    OR

    We dont even know how much they get as not stated- a small amount of tax credits to one person might be a lot to another.

    It wasnt your award or your partners but hers, your child's DLA award so child tax credits have increased because you now have a disabled child.

    Maybe if you read posts you may understand them better and only reply when you at least have a clue what your on about, you have given wrong "answers" to a few posts in diffrent threads, not just this one and this board isnt for guesses but information.

    You gooleing dosnt come into play for this (may have a chance of a DLA award) case.
  • oh dear I didnt want to start an argument. I went on to the tax credits calculator and put in that I was receiving DLA, there was a question, do you recieve high rate care (which I wouldnt, best case scenario would be high rate mobility but low or med rate care) I obviously ticked no and the calculator came up with the exact same award Im already receiving so I believe sunnyone is right in saying my disability status makes no difference, but you would be entitled to extra if you have a disabled child.
    we receive just under £100 a month tax credits, which conisdering my ohs wages for 2010/2011 were £19000 and I had no income, with 2 under 5's, isnt a big amount. But anything is gratefully received when times are so hard.
    What about housing and council tax benefit, would i be able to apply for any? Also at the moment we are stuck in a 3rd floor maisonette, and since its a mobility problem I have, I am pretty much housebound,and I struggle getting my girls to nursery most days. We have maximum medical points with the council, but been told it will be a long wait for a ground or first floor 3 bedroom. I have said we would accept a 2 bed and turn the living room with a sofa bed, since its only 2 nights a week we need the 3rd room (when step daughters come to stay) but told they would only give us 3 beds! We have looked at private rents but they are £700-£900 for 2 bed, even in crappy areas. IF I received DLA and knew I could apply for some housing benefit, it would mean we could move and I could have a better quality of life!

    Xmas Saver!
    My mum gets dla at high rate monility, and middle rate care, this has given us a reduction on the ouncil tax, (we were originally recieivng a small deduction due to income), when we notified of upgrade of care, as she was originally on low care - this knocked off some money. Whether it is becuase the care is higher and/or we have had to improvements in the home to accomodate.

    It would be a case of notifying housing benefit etc if and when you got the dla. xx
    xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

    Have you not applied for HB/CTB?

    You may be eligable. for it.

    HB and DLA dosnt mean you will get the extra room for your part time child but I have read on these forums that because you have two kids you might (and I have only read about it here) get the 3 room rate regardless of where you live IF you are entitled to HB/LHA.

    If you get DLA you may (depending on what rate or where you live) also be able to get:
    - concession bus pass
    - disabled person's railcard which saves 1/3rd for you and a companion on most train fares
    A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
