I just realised today that 24 month contracts have become the norm

Called 02, they offered 24 month contracts, went onto Carphone Warehouse websites, lots of 24 month contracts.
Are people really going for them rather than 18 month contracts?

You can get shorter contracts but the monthly repayment will be higher to recover the cost of the handset, or you can easily get a sim-only monthly contract. It's a question of what best suits your wallet and needs. I wouldn't be too upset by the right 24 month contract but then I'm not fussed about the latest handset, apps etc.Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!0

To me, it's kinda human nature. In many cases, an 18-month contract charges for the handset, whereas 24-month doesn't. As both end dates are so far away, yer average punter takes the free handset. Worry about the end date later.0

If taking out a 24 month contract, I would check to see at what point you qualify for a phone upgrade during the contract.0

I was offered an 18 month contract (just coming out of 12 month contract) today but with a charge of £75 for the phone. It seems pay something towards the phone and you get a 6 month slightly less contract. Weigh it all up and it may cost slightly more. Problem is if you get fed up with the phone then you're stuck - just be my luck! I said no thank you anyway. Price was an extra £11 per month.0
