T-Mobile six month free internet, catch?
I've just ordered a new mobile via T-mobile and what swayed me was the fact it came with free six months of internet.
Anybody here have this and is their a catch? I can't see anything in T&C but I don't want to start using the internet whilst I'm out then check my balance and find I've only got a few pence left (it is on PAYG)

The catch is you need to phone customer services to activate it then you get 500MG of data with unlimited web browsing0

500mg is that per month? sorry but not to sure how it works via smartphones, This will be my first one. The idea was to use our home's wifi on the phone, thus saving money and then using the free internet whilst out and about eg taking photos and posting them to facebook/twitter.
I mean 500MB
tbh thats plenty for a phone people get up in arms about data limits but I don't know anyone who uses more than that.
Plus they give you unlimited web browsing. If you some how managed to use up 500MB FUP all they would do is limit you downloading and streaming between 4pm and midnight until the 1st of the following month. You'd still be able to do it other times of the day and you can still browse.0 -
I've seen this in T Mobile too and have been looking at the Rapport which is 79.99 on PAYG thought it was quite a good deal.0

Be care to note when the 6 months up, I did not receive any text and ran up £1/ day until I noticed I was out of credit.0

It is a good deal as they do not charge extra if you go over-only decrease your download speed go around 0.3mb which i found is still good enough to do most things.
They share Three's 3g network too so coverage for browsing is fantastic.

I just got it for my existing iPhone for 12 months for 15 quid (10 of which is a topup):

Couldn't find a catch. It does seem a bit too good to be true (you don't even have to buy the iPhone through them.. it's for existing ones), but we'll see.
Seemed a no brainer with 3 (my existing network) gradually shutting down roaming onto Orange. T-Mobile has a more solid and clearer agreement with Orange and yet uses the same networks.0 -
Edit 2: To cut a long story short, the catch is that it's a pain in the !!!! to get activated.
Be ready to wait several days for your £10 and activation texts to appear, then some random amount of time for the internet addon to start working (until which time they kindly take £1/day out of your balance unless you disable data on your phone) or to keep phoning and chasing until everything is sorted. They do say it can be 48 hours, but I can only assume that means 48 working hours i.e. 6 working days..
As an indication of competence, not that I'm complaining, I chased up the £10 and they applied it manually but forgot to tell the system not to do the automatic one. Which FINALLY arrived this morning, totaling £20. Whoopsie!
Tip for getting things done with T-Mobile: use Twitter. They do answer and are helpful through there. Think I'm getting somewhere...0 -

And thats a monumental challenge in itself!:mad:0 -
Got there in the end.. use Twitter @TMobileUKhelp - it's far easier than navigating the phone menus, getting passed around and trying to understand strong accents.
Also a hint for anyone waiting for activation of the free internet: turn OFF the data on your phone so you don't get charged £1/day, and periodically text "BA" to 150. When it's activated it should be listed as an allowance on the balance text, and you should also receive a text message saying it's up and running.
And just to compare to 3.. one thing I never thought of is that 3 give you a ton of free texts etc when you top up, even if it's only £5. I don't think T-mobile do. But still, with 3 crippling and slowly turning off Orange's roaming (at the same time as T-mobile just starting up their Orange roaming!) I guess you get what you pay for.0
