    I've been Money Tipped!
What comfort there must be in having a beautifully hand-made gown for the burial of a much-wanted but stillborn baby - surely this is the very opposite of so much in our society that reeks of 'conveyor-belt' practicality.

How wonderful to realise that there are people, unknown to you, who want to give this tiny person something that acknowledges how precious that lost little life was.

What a big thing to do - whether donating your wedding gown for the benefit of others, or doing the fine work required to make the outfits which are given to SCBU all over the country - and what a gift to be able to put some solace into a wounded heart.

Ettenna - thank you for the link.

Well said Paddy's Mum, the kindness of strangers at times of grief is a wonderful gesture of support.

Thank you for posting this, I had never heard of this concept and will definitely be donating my wedding dress.

These must be a godsend, particularly for a woman who has had a stillborn baby. If you think about it, putting this dress on their baby will be the first and last time they ever get to dress their beloved baby in something beautiful. The image is something that they will cherish for the rest of their lives. This wonderful gesture will save them having to trawl around the shops for something suitable, possibly still recovering from the birth, and it will also save people having to find money they possibly don't have.

I understand why some of you say that it's not for them though, I think you have to have experienced a loss like this to understand what a truly kind and wonderful gesture it really is.
  • wow this thread has made me cry! Its a lovely idea, very generous of anyone to do it x

I have thought of donating my wedding dress to this charity - especially after my grandson was born prematurely (but survived).

I had heard of wedding dress donation through Bonnie Babies when I was browsing the net looking for charities to knit for.

They also take donations of little knitted and crochet burial clothes.

If you think about it, it's probably difficult to get hold of anything to fit a very small premature baby and having donated items on offer can give grieving families one less thing to think about at such an awful time in their lives.

Patterns for the knitted and crochet items can be found on the Bonnie Babies site if anyone would like to give it a go.

a stupid question, but do people dress people (and babies) up when they die? i would have thought you;'re just wrapped up in a sheet or something?

Well my mum knitted a teeny coat hat and mitts for DD to be buried in - she said she would have knitted for a full term baby and wasn't having any differences made.

Well that's the thing, everybody deals with these kind of situations differently. I think people are focusing too much on the fact that its 'someone else's wedding dress' when really it might just be a source of free high quality silk.

Exactly the point I think - free, and a lot of it.

I think it's a lovely reason to donate a dress.

Thank you to Ettenna, I will pass the Bonnie babies link on to my mum (I am useless at knitting)

I'm not very good at sewing, but I'm going to have a go at a PBG. I wanted to give my lost one a funeral but my ex boyf laughed and said it was stupid, so maybe I will be able to help someone else.
