Cost to build party wall in roof??

Hi all,

I am in the process of buying a house, and the mortgage company have said they are going to withhold £5k until certain work is done on it. :(
One of the things they want us to do is build the party wall in the loft (the house is semi-detached - at the moment there's no wall in between mine and my neighbour's loft space, apart from the chimney breast that goes through the middle).
Obviously I'm going to need to comply with the Party Wall act, building regs etc, but can anyone give me a rough idea of how much this is going to cost to build? The roof is quite shallow, but I literally have no idea whether this is going to cost £1,000 or £10,000!! :o

Thanks all :)

Send us a link to the property so we can see the roof/house type/location.

You should get the neighbour involved in that - it's a fire wall that's needed and it's in their interests that it's done and done properly ...

Just had that done last month. Builder was already on site & charged me £450 - built in celcon blocks. My neighbour did offer to pay half, but didn't come up with the money. Hey, ho I'm not falling out over that. Neighbour has had 8 months solid of noise going on in & around my house, and he has been incredibly tolerant. Neighbour did sign up party wall act, so such is life. Wouldn't mind but neighbour has a Caterham in his garage....

Also, would point out lane to my house is incredibly difficult to get materials to - extremely narrow, so builder has had ongoing problems getting materials in & out of property. He's used a combination of a dumper truck, wheelbarrows & transits

Get a seperate quote from your builder for you lugging up the bricks, bags of sand and cement. If it's £100 cheaper then it may be worth you spending a few hours a day getting all the materials into the loft on boards ready (obviously spread out evenly)
