car hire in Mallorca

I hired a car from Gold car in Majorca last year and was charged 90 euros for a full tank of petrol for a small car to be returned empty no information about number of litres or cost. When I returned to UK I complained to Auto Europ through whom I had booked it. I suggested if they and other brokers did not regulate the business the EU would. Surprisingly they reimbursed me 30 euros and gave me a percentage off the next hire. I have also booked through Argus and two cars on different occasions were faulty and each time their Irish office said it was not their problem take it up with the hirer. I am a frequent hirer and have been looking into the fuel policy this year, nothing has changed. I phoned Auto Europ prepared to use them again but when I asked if the position would be the same re fuel policy I was told it was not their problem. My advice is do not use Brokers and do not use companies such as Gold cars.

I don't agree.
They are upfront about the fuel policies. If you don't like it, go elsewhere.
Yes, it is a bit of a gamble but, again, if you want certainty as to the final cost, then go elsewhere.
Personally, we booked through Auto Europe and were pleased with the hire car (a brand new Citroen C4) and were charged 80 euros for the up front fuel.
The cheapest 'pick up full, return full' offer was over £100 more expensive. So, whilst paying a bit extra for the fuel, it still worked out cheaper.
I don't think you will have much luck in getting the EU to regulate this....0 -
and this is a vent/rant - not a consumer right issue...0

Agreed. I'll move it across to vents...Forum_Team wrote:
