When does the TR1 form need to be completed by?

We exchanged on a house on Monday, complete next Tuesday. We have just been sent the TR1 form and it needs signing, do we have to rush round and get this signed/witnessed prior to completion or is it something normally done a bit after completion?
I currently live a long way from my girlfriend who I am buying with and am wondering if now one of us needs to take a day off work and get to the other so we can get it signed together or if it doesnt have to happen before completion then we dont have to miss a day of work.
Thanks

The TR1 is the document that transfers ownership. That's why it is prefixed 'TR'.
Without it 'Completion' does not happen as ownership of the property will not be transferred!0 -
Why didn't the buyer's solicitors send it to OP when he was sent the contract to sign?
Yes, it will need to be signed before completion.RICHARD WEBSTER
As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.0 -
OP I'm assuming you're selling somewhere as well as buying - hence the TR1.
I'd suggest driving over to your GF's this weekend.0 -
We have signed quite a few papers already. I suspect the reason for delay was that we wanted a declaration of trust drawing up to cover our unequal shares and the solicitor said that this would be done after exchange. I have no idea why the solicitor delayed this when he could have started it a month ago. It seems that a declaration of trust is tied to the TR1 form so we have received the TR1 and declaration of trust for signing with just a few days to go and we live currently 100 miles apart and the solicitor is 50 miles away as well so this makes returning it in time very tricky. Sadly it sounds like we both need to do some driving!
Incidentally we are just buying, no sales are involved.

Can't you just have two different witnesses and you post it (registered post/special delivery/recorded - whichever's quickest/safest) to her so she can sign, then she can send it (same post) to solicitor.

Thanks for the information, I will be doing a bit of driving this weekend to get it all done.0
