Next return

Hi,
I bought an item from Next a few weeks ago and have worn it once. Have now seen it in the sale for half the price so I've bought it again with the plan of taking back the 'new' one but with the old receipt so I'll get the full price back.

I've done this before but just checked the old receipt against the barcode on the label of the new product and it's different, how can this be? it's the exact same item, same colour, size everything, I even checked the labels inside the items and they're identical.

If I take it back now, will they think I'm trying to pull a fast one??! Am I better to take the label off the new one. I never take things back that I've worn but this is £15 difference and a lot of money for me.

Any advice?
Thanks

You are pulling a fast one...

Next sales items used to be marked. They used to have red dot on the label on the item so they knew if people were pulling a fast one..

Maybe they now change the labels instead?

My DD works in a highstreet store and some of the stories she tell me make me feel sick! People try and return clothing that has obviously been bought from a charity shop or a car boot, or is several years old, for a refund, so this post doesnt surprise me in the least, do you return underwear if it doesnt fit?

I very much doubt they'd accept the return with the receipt if it's 'a few weeks old' anyway!

They are quite strict with the timings of returns!
  • Thanks for all your abuse, I've already said I don't return worn items and I've not returned one now. I returned an item that I bought yesterday!! unworn or even tried on!!! I just happened to be unlucky enough to have bought it at full price a few weeks before the sale and still had the receipt from that sale. My receipt was well within date so what have I actually done wrong??!!
Try reading the post properly before you slag me off!

  • And I'd also like to add that it was one of the Next sales staff that 'advised' me of this in the first place, after I'd told her I'd just seen something in the sale that I'd bought already.

I have done it myself, if an item has been reduced and never had a problem. Though the barcode has always been the same. Nothing worse than buying something and it being reduced within days.

What your question has to do with returning underwear and charity shops is beyond me.
Some people are very easy to criticise on these forums.

  • Thanks Bluenose,
I was beginning to think I'd committed a heinous crime for a moment!
At least you read the post properly.
And no, it had nothing to do with charity shops or underwear - I'd already said I wouldn't even take something back that I'd worn even once.

You've made me have faith in human kind again :A

might be to late for you now, but just for reference, my son got given a pair of trousers from next for his birthday, i really really didn't like them so went and asked if i could exchange them. the sa said you can but they were in the sale this week so thats all you'll get, said fine (1/2 price is better than them selling on a boot sale for 20p next year:o) but when she scanned them she said 'oh actually it shows they were bought before the sale so i can give you the full amount for an exchange'
apparently they have intelligent lables now - i don't know if this is on all stock or not.

I have been told via someone who has worked there that all the itmes have different codes, if returned and scanned they can tell the store the date it was bought and the method it was paid for !
    Very clever :)

It's also worth noting that most 'sale' items at next are made for the 'sale' which would explain why 'sale' items have different barcodes, I have done what you are wanting to do a few times. It always bugs me when I buy something and within days the price has been reduced, by half most times too!

I would take the tags off and say you removed them by accident (when trying the item on maybe) and return it without, you do still have the receipt so it shows that you actually paid for it.
