I went to one years ago, unfortunately after 6 weeks they said there was nothing they could do for me - although they did try.

They help you to try to manage your pain. This can be in varioys ways such as light exercise - they tailor the exercise to your capabilities - advice on diet, helping ypu recognise triggers etc.

I am wondering if it would be different now as it was a few years ago, and I would imagine things have changed for the better.

I was referred to a pain clinic. The doctor I saw told me I was in pain because I was depressed and, if she addressed the depression, I would no longer be in pain. On my second visit, she ignored the fact that I was clearly in real pain and decided to send me to another department for a psychological assessment: adding the words, "If they allow you to go home, I'll liaise with your GP." Needless to say, I very quickly left the hospital and have not been back since!

I had an appointment a month later with a psychologist who said I wasn't depressed but fed up. I remain fed up and in pain.
  • Sounds like the doctor had it the wrong way around, Sarlyka!

Thanks again to everyone for your input. I've got my appointment at the local private hospital, through choose & book, in a couple of weeks time. Here's hoping they have some different ideas, eh.
