Crikey, you guys are fast! 4 replies just while I was typing mine! I'm so slow!
I'm in the North East, kugon, and I've been given 4 different hospitals as my options on choose & book. I'm going to try the one that's nearest and easiest to get to first. Rochelle, that sounds like an amazing programme! Hope it goes well for you, should you decide to take it up.
Pleased to hear that not all clinics are the same, erdd2. I guess if the first place I try isn't right for me, I can look at the other options.
Sorry to hear it wasn't the right choice for mrswoodbine. Guess it can't work for us all. Has to be worth a try, though.
Thanks guys, for your replies! I really do appreciate hearing all your experiences. From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!0 -
Starry,
Have you received an info regards what to expect? I was provided this from second PMClinic and I "interviewed" them on my third appointment regards their position and what I could expect and this has been really helpful.0 -

Maybe google all the different pain clinics that are available to you on the choose and book and read all the different views and then maybe that might help you to make a decision to which hospital you choose.Good luck and i hope you get some relief from chronic pain as i myself know how debilitating it can be xx0 -
Im in the North East and if University of North Durham is one choice DONT GO THEIR!
They are rubbish, I was strechered out after he (I dont think I can name him but its doctor L) decided to ignore all my other specialists and try to force me to try to stand/walk saying he would catch me, he missed and I ended up in casualty where he came to see me and he said half my notes were missing so he didnt understand my spinal injuries (he lied, I pointed to the notes covering my accident while we disagreed that I should try to stand/walk), my granda went when he only took paracetamol for his pain (he couldnt feel his feet due to nerve damage) and he came away with oramorph and an offer to cut his leg off when he would never be fit enough for an anestetic!
University of North Tees is much better, thats where i currently go.0 -
Should have mentioned in my previous post that my first experience of pain management was carp and was reluctant to attend a different one, but soooooooooooooooooo glad I did.0

I went to a C.O.P.E (Centre for pain management education) clinic and on the map i saw a ton of them dotted across the country. I went for a lifestyle management course for CFS but i saw the pain management class notes up on the whiteboards sometimes, quite a bit of crossover with our own course which was helpful as much as such things can be.0

Thanks, guys.
I've no idea what to expect really. I'm having some problems with the last lot of medication I was prescribed, andneed to have a chat with my GP about it, so might see what he can tell me about what to expect and which, if any, clinic might be best suited for me.
North Tees is one of my options, sunnyone, but a bit too far for me to get to on public transport.
Thanks so much to everyone for your comments and opinions. Very much appreciated :-)From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!0 -
I think it depends very much on the area you live in. I've had access to the pain management clinic - my original referral was declined by an arrogant consultant, who said it would only 'medicalise a condition there's no cure for'. I persisted, and ended up seeing a consultant who specialised in pain management, followed by a referral to the team where I had an assessment with the super-intendent physio & a clinical psychologist within the team. From this I had ongoing physio, a 6 week course of hydro-therapy (with the option to continue weekly sessions in the self-led sessions), and 6 weeks of acupuncture. I also opted out of the pain management course, as I havea pyschology background and understood a lot of the material that would have been covered. Instead I had about 5 1:1 sessions with the clinical psychologist which was really helpful. For me, I wouldn't have benefited from the group pain management course, but I can see how it could be helpful depending ona wide range of factors. Go with an open mind - hope you gain something benefical from it0
