Buying flights to the US

I've been looking at flight prices this week to Las Vegas mostly on Expedia and E-Bookers. Flights for the time i want to go have been coming in at about 429 pp with Delta and KLM 460 with others, payday is tomorrow.
I look today and theres nothing under 610 unless I go with US airways and even they are 570.
Is there any reason airfairs jump 200 quid overnight ? I remember reading somewhere it can be cheaper early week to book fares, but surely not by so much. Any advice welcome.:(

any number of factors can impact prices...maybe when you've checked before they had seats left in the lower price buckets and those sold out - so the deep discount fares are gone now...or maybe other factors impacted it.
We have seen fares jump quite a bit then come back down a day or two later...we've also seen them jump and never settle back to the previous levels...there are just too many variables.
when are you looking to go? Maybe consider popping over to the Vegas thread where people can advise on different routings, etc. which may be an option for you? £429 seems quite a good deal - maybe a sale fare that's now ended? I'm not sure...worth keeping an eye out for a bit longer to see if prices come back down, but ultimately you need to decide when to pull the trigger and then don't look back.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
I think the BA/AA sale was on till the 19th so Delta/KLM may have had fares lower to be competitive and match. Now the BA/AA fares have gone back up they can raise theirs too0

Clashing with the sale seems plausable.
I'm looking at February half term 2012. I know prices have been crazy most of this year, but they seemed to settle down over the last month or so. I get excited when i'm about to book a holiday, maybe I'll just have to sit on my hands and watch the sites for the next sale to come along. Las Vegas is only an option tbh if anywhere else becomes more attractive priice wise I'll go there.
Thanks for the replies0 -
Sadly, you have probably missed the sale boat....
Prices have been crazy all year. We'd been looking at flights to Denver and they had been in the region of £580 to £650 for ages, until the BA/AA sales brought them down to £480.
We booked but the changed back to £580 at about the same time you noticed your Vegas flights going up.0 -
Doesn't look like I've got much chance of getting a USA bargain now for mid-September then

All the major carriers had sales until 12th July. A few then extended until 19th and the rest followed.
They've all ended now.
The last two such sales from Virgin Atlantic in the past 3 months have been followed by yet another sale only a week or so later, so wait a few weeks and see if that happens. If not, you are out of luck.
I booked for £387 2 weeks ago - same flights are £515 today!0 -
Ok now I'm confused, searched again today four tickets with Delta to Las Vegas half term february 427.68 each with Expedia0

Yup, much to my annoyance it seems we've now got yet ANOTHER round of flight sales. It's getting beyond a joke now. Virgin are now having the fourth 'sale' in as many months.
Is it just me who is constantly irritated that buying flights is basically a massive lottery?0 -

Quite, I guess if my biggest nuisance this month is my flights dropped 35 quid a week after buying them then I guess it isnt all bad!0
