Not a free MEAL - just the meat of the burger.

I'd agree with you if it was an adult but this was a four year old for goodness sake - they are supposed to be family friendly.

I still don't agree that a restaurant should be slagged off for not providing free replacement food because a customer dropped it.

If one of my children dropped their food, I would expect to pay for replacements.
Here I go again on my own....

OK Becles - I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one!

Of course I know they are not legally obliged to replace the food, etc.

But the way I see it is like this: imagine you are running a chain restaurant promoting yourselves as family-friendly. A party of seven come in and spent quite a bit having starters, desserts, drinks, etc. Young child accidentaly drops the meat out of her burger before she gets a bite. Do you a) replace the burger cheerfully at a cost to you of probably pence or b) state that a new replacement main course for the child, with unneeded bread bun and vegetables, at full price, will have to be ordered.

End result of option a): family goes away happy, thinking 'what nice people' and returns several times over the next few years.

End result of option b): family goes away thinking 'miserable gits', never returns, slags restaurant off to friends and readers of messageboards.

Their meanspirited attitude does not make business sense!

Well, put another way,I dont think this is going to be listed in Martins weekly email....Although it would have been wise to make themselves clearer.

I had a run-in with the manager at a Brewers Fayre a little while back. They had a big offer on a huge board outside saying "All meals £5 each" or something like that (I can't remember what now).

So we go in, order our meals and the bill is really high. Apparantly it wasn't valid on Bank Holidays, which this was. Yet they had still dragged the giant sign outside. I went and examined this huge sign and sure enough, in tiny letters at the bottom it said it wasn't valid on bank holidays.

Haven't been back and won't be going back - largely due to the attitude of the manager when discussing it. I had the opinion that if the offer wasn't valid on that day then they shouldn't advertise it outside the pub (and inside it, for that matter), and he was of the opinon that "There's nothing I can do about it" in a nasty tone of voice.

So we made sure we sent back all our meals complaining about each one :D
