TV, DVD Recorder and NTL set-top box connections

Please help me with this. Apologies if this has been discussed before.

I am trying to connect my Samsung HDTV, LG DVD Recorder and NTL set-top box.

On my TV I have 2 scart leads - EXT2 (AV) and EXT1 (RGB).
On my NTL box I have 2 scart leads - VCR and TV
On my DVD Recorder I have 2 scart leads - EURO AV1 Decoder and EURO AV1 Audio/Video.

I have connected my Ant IN (TV) to RF Out (DVD Recorder).

I have no clue on how to go about with these connections. Please help me.

Thanks

  • Plug the OUT of your NTL box into the IN of the DVD recorder.
    Plug the OUT of your DVD recorder into your TV.

    Just rumaged around at the cak of mine and;

    NTL feed goes to ntl box, as does your aerial.

    NTL box;
    Scart VCR goes to VCR, as does RF-out (to aerial in).
    Scart TV goes to TV.

    VCR;
    Scart goes to DVD, other from NTL. RF-Out to TV (in from NTL).

    DVD;
    Scart out to VCR.

    Not having the luxury of a DVDR, not totally certain. Hope that helps.

    NTL TV Out scart to DVD Recorder IN, DVD recorder Out to RGB scart of the TV
  • I connected as follows -

    NTL TV to DVD AV2
    DVD AV1 to TV EXT1
    NTL VCR to TV AV2

    I can play DVDs now on Ext Source 1 and watch telly on Ext Source 2, however I am not able to setup the tv channels on my DVD recorder. Hence unable to record!

    I noticed that you state on your dvd recorder you have EURO AV1 Decoder and EURO AV1 Audio/Video. I'm assuming that is a typo and one is AV2 probably the decoder.

    Connect as follows:
    NTL TV
    > TV EXT2 (AV)
    NTL VCR
    > DVD Euro AV2 Decoder
    DVD EURO AV1 Audio/Video
    > TV EXT1 (RGB)

    Do you have an aerial for terrestrial tv? If so connect that to the RF or aerial in on the DVD recorder then connect the RF out DVD ----> ANT IN on TV.

    To record terrestial channels make sure the DVD recorder is tuned to receive these channels. To record from NTL change the channel/input on the dvd recorder to AV2.

    Hope that helps

  • OK I managed to get to AV2 and record whatever channel the cable box was on.

    How can I record some channel and view some other channel at the same time? Similarly, how can I record some channel and watch a DVD at the same time.

    I think it leads to the question, how can I use the internal tuner and store channels on the DVDR instead of recording AV2?

    THanks

    record either a channel from the NTL box or the DVD recorder internal tuner, then watch the analogue channels on your television

    if the DVD recorder doesn't have a Hard drive then you can't, buy a seperate DVD player, if it does have a HD, read the manual

    connect the aerial as described two posts ago and then scan for channels
  • Guys, thanks for your reponses. I do not have an external aerial as I am using NTL cable! I have got the connections right but cannot fully make use of my HDD DVDR.
