You can still put 'no returns' if you don't have a returns policy can't you? A private seller isn't covered by DSR's so if the buyer changes their mind after receiving the goods the seller isn't obliged to accept them back.
Not much point, it will put some people off buying from you, and unwanted items will still find their way back to you. Also some people will be put off from trying to resolve issues and will open a dispute, or leave negs without bothering to contact you first.
I have a very generous returns policy and get few refunds, some will return even when they think it's my fault instead of opening a dispute as they find it easier (obviously if that's the case I would refund return postage anyway).
I think that in balance, the cost of returns is offset by extra sales from people who (like me) stay away from 'no returns' policies as they expect lots of hassle if there is a problem.
Also encouraging people to contact you instead of going straight to dispute or leaving neg fb is always a good thing (I have 0 dispute, and only ever had 1 neg from someone who didn't contact me - but don't get me started on this one...)0
