Virgin mobile contract expiring but still gonna be charged =S

Hello all
my phone contract expires on sunday so i rang up the virgin team today to tell them i won't be continuing it after it ends.
As part of my agreement i only have to give at least 48 hours notice, which i have. But when i mentioned this Virgin said you are supposed to give a months notice (which i know is applicable if you started your contract before June 28 2010 ) but i started my contract before this time in Jan 2010 and as part of my arrangement it is 48 hours notice.
I don’t understand why they are going to charge me a further month when i have given enough notice and finished my agreed contract? :S

hiya it says this on their website for customers who signed up before 28 June 2010
3.4 At the end of the Minimum Term: We may contact you towards the end of your Minimum Term to let you know that the Minimum Term is due to come to an end. At the expiry of your Minimum Term we will continue to provision you with your Contract Allowance on a monthly (or other periodic) basis and will continue to bill you for the Charges. You will need to contact the Team at least 48 hours before the expiry of your Minimum Term or any subsequent monthly renewal date for your Contract Allowance if you do not want us to continue provisioning you with your Contract Allowance each month.

I think you are right. Call again, demand your call to be escalated to a higher level manager and quote the T&C.0

I rang virgin mobile again , they said I am right! - BUT because im not renewing it it is classed as cancelling ?? and to cancel its 30 days , even though my contract will have finished by then and i gave them the 48 hour notice as required by them. totally confused as i havent cancelled it , my 18 months have come to an end im not continuing it....

A contract is for a minimum term, not a max.
All that's happened is you've reached that minimum term, the contract then becomes a 30 day rolling contract requiring a 30 day notice period.
If you wanted it to end at the 18 month point you needed to have given notice 30 days before that.0 -
After the second thought I think they are right. I have to admit this is very confusing indeed, but as I said above, such short notice is very unusual for a cancellation; normally it is 1 month.
Any chance you can switch to the cheapest tariff or PAYG first, then cancel?0 -
They are right if its a contract its a 30day notice period the reason being is you always pay a line rental one month in advance so youve already paid the month0
