little girl chipped car!

I'm in a car park very upset. My little girl has opened the door and chipped paint off adjacent car.

The brat.

Before anyone tells me off for being bad parent, I was sorting ticket for pay and display. Told her not to open door but didn't listen.

The chip is grey. Could be my paint or could be their paint chipped.

I am going to do the right thing and leave number. I am worried they might try and rip me off.

What's an reasonable amount to pay? Am I a mug for being honest?

Presumably you can see if there is damage to your car or the other one ?

If it's a tiny chip (and the other party agrees), could be done with a drop of touch up paint ...about £7

If they don't agree ... they could be looking for a full panel respray - a couple of hundred quid at least, could be more (depends on panel size, age/make of vehicle and where you get it repaired).

Don't know about costs, but I suggest you take plenty of photos of the damage, your door, the relative positions of the two cars, etc.

The latter is what I worried about. It's small. About size of peppercorn.

Photograph the damage, then if they try to claim more you have proof
If at first you don't succeed, maybe bomb disposal isn't the best career choice.

No, but we live in an age where jealous folk old enough to know better maliciously key other people's cars. I think the other driver will appreciate your honesty.

Good advice, but make sure that you get another part of the car in the shot to provide some perspective, or put a ruler in the shot to show the actual size of the damage. A close up of a scratch without any market of proportionality isn't going to be helpful.

We also live in an age where people take advantage of honest folk.

    PHOTOGRAPH THE DAMAGE!!!!

Oh and wipe over with a cloth too just to see if it did actually do any damage.
