Unwanted Ryanair flight tickets

Some time back I booked flights [with Ryanair] and accommodation in corfu for six people [self, wife, two kids and their partners] in October. Eldest son has just got a job in West Indies and unsurprisingly isn't too keen on flying back to go to Corfu. I can cancel the excess hotel room, but am left with the Ryanair tickets, costing around £300 all-in.
Changing the name on the tickets would cost £100 each. There is clealry no prospect of a refund and it's not covered by travel insurance. I've more or less resigned myself to writing it off to experience, but wondered if any folk had any bright moneysaving ideas?

Do you know somebody with the same name as your eldest son?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Why not ring Ryanair & ask nicely for a free name change ???
One or two people on this forum have been successful in getting a free change.
Always worth a try.0 -

Yes, I suspect Ryanair wouldn't take too kindly to a totally different name. And if eldest son was 'John smith' there might be a chance of finding a namesake, but as it's quite an unusual moniker the chances are slim. Oh well, looks as though I'll just have to smile gracefully and make sure I get a decent holiday in the West Indies out of it next year...0

I'd very much doubt there'd be any chance of getting any money back, ryanair are notorious for adding charges to everything so I'd doubt they'd refund, or if they did refund the charges for "admin" attatched to that would probably negate the cost of the flights anyway.
sorry to hear of your holiday problems its never nice to have such things go wrong0 -
Hi Thier
Have you considered selling your holiday as a package on ebay? Many people (including myself) are always looking for holiday deals. Even with the name changes of £200 you may still beable to recoup some funds.....obviously you would need an ebay account.0 -
Only travel agents with an ATOL licence are allowed to sell holidays on eBay.0

Thanks Moneysavvy - the actual cost of the holiday for son+1 is £700, BUT I may be able to cancel the accom without incurring too many charges. It's just the Ryanair bit that I fear I may lose on. However, eldest son's job appears to be delayed somewhat now, so I'm hoping it may yet work out ok.0
