My Mam had my old cot to put the baby to sleep in.

She also kept a couple of babygro's and vests in case of accidents, nappies and the usual changing equipment, a small steriliser, bottles and feeding equipment, a supply of baby food, bibs and wipes, and some toys and books.
Here I go again on my own....
  • Maybe we should start a Granny thread. The things we do when the parents are not around. I have enrolled my grandson into the nursery rhyme group at our local library, he can join when he reaches 6 months. I cannot wait to spend my Tuesday afternoons with Thomas and other Grannies

Congratulations Kitty - how lucky your daughter is to have you around to help. I don't think you're being silly that you want to buy some clothes - I had to do that when I was expecting DD. I didn't know if I was having a boy or a girl so I bought some "unisex" sleep-suits in a zebra print. The only problem was, when she came to wear them she looked like a mini-burglar (ironic as I work for the Probation Service!!!!!!).

Anyway best of luck and I hope all goes well. I know how excited mil was at the news that I was expecting. And best of all, at the end of the day you can give the baby back!!! I'm looking forward to being a gran already!!!!

    Jxx
And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

My mum cared for DD1 when I went back to work - it was great that I had here to help. We supplied her with pushchair, highchair, all changing gear, spare clothes, and weaning stuff (bowls/cups/spoons) fireguard, DD never slept there whilst she was still in cot, only when she was bigger, by which time she slept in what was my old room, and we provided a bed-guard. Doing it this way didn't cost us a lot as we got carboot stuff/it given, but meant that we could just drop DD off without all the entrantlements! Enjoy - its a really special time, I will always be grateful to my mum for giving my DD the best childcare possible.

Brilliant idea Glenstan, a lot comes back to you when you have grandchildren but so much has changed since I had my eldest, the main one laying your baby down to sleep on its back. We were told (26 years ago) by the health professionals to lay them on their front! Now they say its the worst thing you can do.
  • I agree southwestmaid and glenstan, that we should have a granny thread because some things have changed since our days and not only in basic sleeping positions, car seats etc. There is a stack of equipment about too and some is obviously essential and good value for money. I will start to make a list pretty soon so I can keep an eye out for bargains

My lovely daughter and her dh are so very grateful that I am willing to help out with daily childcare. I know I have taken a big weight off their shoulders but I too am grateful to be allowed and trusted to do this very important job

Congratulations kittie that is wonderful news, your dd is very luckly indeed.

The NCT organises nearly new sales twice a year and they are fab; we have bought loads of clothes, toys etc. You sometimes find quite a lot of new clothes too - presents I guess that never fit or were wrong season..

Congratulations You must be so thrilled. What a lucky daughter you have to have such a caring mother. All I can reccomend is changes of clothes and spare toys and travel cot and plenty of love and patience!

I have DD 6yrs and DS 22 months and no one will have them for us as son is somewhat clingy and hard work. When we had just DD everyone wanted her and would have her at weekends and everything but now we have 2 it is a different story altogether. We are dying for a break and have dropped hints but to no avail next option will be to advertise DS on Ebay!!!!!:rotfl:

    Awwww - congratulations Kittie!!!:T

I wish my mum was able to have spare stuff for when I visited, it was so awkward having to take so much with me.

Well, you already have the cot sussed....I would suggest a bouncy chair, changing mat, basic toys (rattles books etc) and some spare nappies/wipes/creams. and maybe an outfit or two (just simple babygros) to keep at your house...we all know how often babies can need changed.;)

I can sympathise......my DS1 (now 7) was an easy child, very quiet and never touched anything he shouldn't. DS2 (18mths) however is a wild child...and I swear, if it's not tied down - he's off with it!!

Thankfully - he will go to anyone....he even cuddles elderly ladies in Supermarkets (when he's not trying to pinch stuff out of their trolleys that is!):rotfl:
