Evening
I've been thinking about getting a new mobile phone for a while and popped into T Mobile today and saw the Rapport (79.99) thought it was quite a good deal.

Now I know nothing about mobiles so was hoping for some advice.
I don't need a state of the art smart phone, I will be travelling for 6 months so dont want a contract, so like the idea of PAYG, but don't quite understand it ;)

If I get a £10 top up and use the phone at least once during 6 months it will still work? If I have credit will I still be able to use wifi?

Does anyone know if this is an unlocked phone or if it can be unlocked.

Thanks

Yes. It has to be a chargeable call or text.

You don't need any credit to be able to use WiFi

A phone bought from a network is most likely to be locked. Some dealers like CPW (and e2save, osps, mobiles.co.uk) sell mainly unlocked phones.

Also on some networks credit expires after a month or more dont know about T mobilr as iv never used them for 15 years or more. You can normley get most phones unlocked for 10 pounds now or cheaper on the high street or online.

Best thing is post here how much you will normley spend a month on call e.g to mobiles or landlines and we can advise on best sim for you.

    :T

hmmmm I currently don't have my own phone (dont ask!) but have a budget of £10-15 pm. Also need to take into account that I will be travelling for the next 6 months so just really need credit for emergency calls/text home. I do plan to hook onto WIFI when I'm travelling though.
I would like to get an unlocked phone so I can pop a foreign sim in it if I want.

Would be great if someone can suggest something as I dont really have any experience of tariffs etc :T
  • From a bit of a Google it seems that the Vodafone Smart, Orange Stockholm, T-mobile Rapport are all the same phone with different operator branding.

It looks good having Android 2.2 as supplied.

The Android forum comments suggest that the Orange San Francisco might be a better bet but this is only Android 2.1 as supplied.

The Orange San Francisco has a free unlock easily available see

    http://sanfranciscoandroid.co.uk/

so might be worth a look.

For data use on PAYG Orange is not the best network (in price terms at least) but once you have used your £10 credit going elsewhere is easy.
