Ebuyer Product Reviews/comments

Options
Just to let people know that ebuyer product reviews are censored.

I have found ebuyer to be reasonable in the past but recently was looking at a hard disk which did not have details about the warranty. phoned ebuyer and was told that if it did not have details in description it was only one year.

as most disk drives have a manufacturer’s warranty unless for specific reasons, i put a review/comment on the website stating that i was told it only had 1 year warranty and when i submitted it said it would take a few days before it would appear.

checked a few days later and the product description was changed and a 3 year warranty was added, over a week later and still my review is not present.

This in my opinion is underhanded behaviour - how can we rely on these reviews when they are omitted by ebuyer when they feel like it???

Well, they are not going to put up a review that includes a reference to incorrect information, are they? That would only confuse people.

I don't think that particular action is unreasonable. It is just that your review is effectively out of date.

All retailers censor their product reviews - not just ebuyer! IMHO their actions have been reasonable. They've obviously read your review, looked into it, and as a result they have added the correct and relevant info onto the product page. To add a review with wrong info would only confuse matters.

So what your saying is that you put a review on, they reviewed and took action on it. Surely that is only a good thing, A) they have amended the product description and B) they amended the product description possibly based on your review.

After changing the description they wouldn't put your review up as you were stating with fact it only had 1 year warranty, which it now doesn't. Had of you said "I have used this HDD for a few months now and find it very slow" I expect they would have allowed the review as it was an opinion rather than a fact!!

perhaps the person checked and saw they had the wrong info and then updated the site to reflect this

Lol not really my thing. I have had my reviews censored by other retailers tho. It is annoying, especially when I try my best to be honest about products. It's one of the reasons I try to look up reviews on more impartial sites than retailers.

or expose their dishonesty... maybe i,m asking too much but they could have not blocked the review and corrected me and apologised for giving me false information in first place.

not true! i can't speak for all retailers like you can, but i have given negative reviews on amazon and they show up immediately unlike the sneaky give us time to vet and block ebuyer method..

i think your spot on custardy, that's why i enquired about warranty in the first place. certainly agree with grey import bit - this is becoming more common but shocked that ebuyer would stoop this level though.

suspect there maybe more than 1 ebuyer worker replying here...

i'm glad nobody denies or disagrees that the ebuyer system is censored, until now i would have never believed it...

I'm sure all retailers censor their reviews to some extent, and that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone... however I have submitted a few reviews to Ebuyer, most of them very positive, but a couple not, and they have all appeared.

A negative review I submitted to Amazon a while ago never made it onto the website though, nor did one on at least one other site I can think of.
  • eBuyer have gone downhill recently, which is unfortunate.
We really need newegg to come over to the UK (if only because their website is much more user friendly).

You see why do people need to make comments like that just because some people don't agree with them, seriously put your toys back in the pram. If you don't want other peoples opinions don't post on a forum.

As for your review its obsolete if your review was basically "This product only has 1 year warranty" why would they allow it to be posted if its a 3 year warranty. Ever single piece of information on that site is added by a human, and human make mistakes. They have amended the mistake yet your still not happy.

They haven't tried to deceive you scam you or anything else your imagination can come up with, they made a MISTAKE and they corrected the mistake.

As for your amazon example its not much different to ebay, it makes no difference to amazon if someone leaves a rubbish review.

Every review left on any site should be reviewed to make sure its factual, non offensive and relevant to the product. You were stating a fact that wasn't correct, why did you expect it to still be listed..........
