  • What I'm trying to get at is that they are not all wired the same, especially if you are using a lead designed for a phone (usually white ones).

Do you have loads of other phones/sky/faxes plugged in elsewhere
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
  • I thought there was only on sort of cable with small plastic plugs one flat for telephone socket and square for the computer.

It is never that simple ........ :rotfl: I won't duplicate Albertross's questions ...

But fyi phone line can only have so many "ringers" on it - some modems needs a "box" on the cable ...

Switch pc off from wall power socket as modem may still be drawing power - wake on ring etc.. and see if phone works then.

The modem is internal and he has connected a telephone cable from the telephone wall socket to the computer. The wall socket appears to be ok as plugging the phone directly into it works ok. No splitter or extension cable being used.

Apologies if this is a really dumb question but I take it the phone is plugged in somewhere else and the modem plugged into a diferent socket?

(Just trying to eliminate the basics first)
We all evolve - get on with it
  • Yes, and phone will work if plugged into that socket.
