I just had this thought in my head of a tiny hairline crack in 100 year old mortar, and technology more incredable than the stuff that took us to the moon constantly monitoring it, it made me chuckle, but then you always do cause your gorgeous !!:p0

Structural engineer just been round and house isn't falling down apparently!
He thinks problem may be partly caused by hot gases coming from boiler flue being trapped under eaves, brickwork absorbing moisture and then drying out hence expanding and contracting and eventually cracking.
He said there is some historic settlement which will have added to the stresses and strains, but nothing more than to be expected in a property of this age.
He recommends getting the flue extended through 90 degrees to take it past the eaves, letting the brickwork dry out into summer and getting the pointing repaired. The couple of crakced bricks he reckons are okay to leave.
Hopefully all this makes sense and I can stop panicking. No reliance should be placed on the above.0 -
Peace (of mind) at last!
Glad to hear you're not falling down.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
