As an aside, please don't block off the airbricks to your house - the vents are there for a reason

Sorry, where I posted that I meant to say guard them with a very fine mesh - mice have a habit of climbing though a miniscule gap, and climbing around in a cavity wall, this can lead them to your loft, or the back of the kitchen cupboards that often have holes in for pipework etc.

Also, if they gnaw though electrics can be a major fire hazard, more so if you've not had a rewire in the past 5 years.

I don't know the difference between a house mouse and a field mouse but mice outside are a fact of life. You will soon know if you have any inside by the tell tale little droppings and even the odd sighting.
Make sure even the tinies of holes are blocked - say above skirting boards - and don't leave food out. I once found a walking boot full of dry dog biscuit. The mouse must have been hoarding it and making supply runs from the kitchen to the bedroom!
A while back I kept getting a strange noise in the wall between me and next door - but there were no signs of anything in the house. I got one of those plug in ultrasonic/radio wave things which are supposed to repell rodents even in cavity walls.. The noise stopped almost immediately. In fact I no longer have it plugged in.

Get a cat, mine has hours of endless fun

As an earlier poster commented, it may be the cats that are actually bringing the mice into your garden - that is certainly the case with me - I have actually seen the damn thing playing with mice and just leaving them while still alive.

A mousetrap loaded with a piece of chocolate wrapped in a few strands of cotton does the trick.

You WILL know if mice get into the house.
mice won't cause you any bother in the garden

Which is correct - providing they stay there - and remember they breed like..........well mice!

They are good at multiplying and as soon as the weather becomes colder or food runs short in the winter, where is the obvious place to go for food and warmth?

Nip the problem in the bud.

Our cats bring them in so they can have a lovely time terrorising them in the dry.
