    yep! this morning have made a plaited loaf with cfr recipe, just made a quarter of the mix for a first time to see how we get on with it, and have a crumble in the oven too :-)
    nov grocery challenge, £.227.69/300, 9/25 nsd: , 7 Cmo, 10 egm.
    Me, 10 yo dd, and the dog. all food and drinks, in and out, plus household shopping.

    Happy to discover this Thread - yes h/m bread is cheaper, but as food for the soul, has a value above price.

    No machine, little hands and 2 loaves rising gently after cathartic kneading, post-rugby and gazing out kitchen window over jungly back>farmland, listening to R4.

    Usual add-whatever-there-is process; today [as often] sunflower, sesame, linseed, poppy, pumpkin, millet [and some loitering flaxmeal used up.]

    Responding to some discussion here, I slice my loaves when cold[breadknife+eye]and freeze them.
    1.There is no better toast, and
    2. .........butter frozen bread for sandwiches, perfect and fresh, no soggy filling@ munch-hour.

    Use briny wash or small beaten egg for crusts.
    A small bowl of water near oven floor adds steam for further rise during baking.
