BBC to survey UK mobile coverage

The BBC is attempting to measure 3G coverage on a street-by-street level. It claims network coverage maps are not detailed enough and wants to produce independant results.

There is an app by Epitiro that will record coverage giving the user a signal strength indicator, while feeding back the results to give a virtual map of coverage. The app is for Android phones only, NOT Iphones or Blackberry. It's claimed it uses very little bandwidth :cool:.

Might be very little bandwidth usage but it sure as hell eats your battery life. After 15 minutes of having it installed on my Desire HD it was accounted for using 36% of total battery consumption this morning. Uninstalled for now.

It's not eating battery on my Galaxy SII. Been running it for a few hours and it uses so little that it doesn't even show on the stock battery info, another more detailed app is showing it at 0.09%.

I've been using it since yesterday, and it's currently not even showing up on the battery info on my Desire...
