how much do you spend on kids shoes?

Just to add, you do have to get the particular shoe fitted as you buy. My daughter tries on two styles in the same size she's measured, but they don't both usually fit the same. Sometimes she needs to go up a size/half size in width or length just due to the style of the shoe. I wouldn't buy online for mine for their everyday/school shoes.Debt free as of July 2010 :j

Thank you so much everyone for taking the time to reply, and all the advice.
I was about to order startrite froma website last nite - so glad I didn't and posted on here instead!
Went to clarkes today with kids after school, and had all 3 kids measured. They had a fab sale on, so stocked up on thier normal shoes and amazing bargain prices - cheaper than the normal cheap shoes I have started to buy.
Got DD 1 pair of multi coloured leather sandals £13 for the summer sun :-)
2 pairs of normal shoes in silver & pink for £9 each in the next size up to current size
1 pair doodles - next size up for £5
2 pairs of proper BOOTS - 1 suede for £5 (originally £40) and a leather pair coated with goretex down to £13!
Both my DS's (aged 7 and 8) for a paid of CICA trainers to use in school for sports/PE for £7 and £9 each.
So altogether, we spent £70 exactly and got loooooads of good quality shoes, that fit right, should last a while and were very cheap! No black shoes in the sale though, so I'm ordering their black school shoes from M&M in their new sizes - about £55 for all 3 kids.
So many thanks again to everyone. I am definately converted to buying better, quality shoes, and just trying to get them as cheap as possible. If anyone still need Clarkes shoes, they had loads of good stuff in the sale!!0 -
Excellent bargains..
If you ever think you spend a lot.. I once went in and spent £420 .. the shoes & trainers did last from the September until at least the easter but still  lol...
I keep mine in Clarks/Startrite until they left school at 16. I always had 'Birthday' shoes when I was little..also measured and fitted.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Its interesting to see what policy schools have on footwear. Our secondary school will only allow black shoes. Nothing that looks like a trainer or has any logo visible. My son has worn the same Clarks shoes all year and for about £35 they have been great.
My younger son is still at Primary and is on to his 3rd pair of Adidas Back to School Trainers (outgrown not worn out!). These are amazing quality for £25 and they look like shoes. I would recommend them to anyone.
Our local Clarks had nothing decent in the sale last Saturday. Lots of very small sizes but only canvas boots to fit my two, and they have those already.
Oh and I see someone mentioned Kickers. We paid about £45 for a pair that my son wanted once and they were absolute rubbish. Fell apart in no time.0 -
I bought some really cheap ones (about £10) when my boy was in nursery (they had to wear a uniform) they lasted about 6 months but they were literally falling apart, they were not leather so the 'plastic' had scrapped off leaving a white net/mesh on show.
This year I bought Clarks - they cost £40 (I was horrified) but they have been fantastic! Just 3 scuffs on the left shoe which gets scuff cleaner put on every night.
I also bought their scuff cream and that too is great, when I ran out of their scuff cream I bought some other well know brand from Tesco and it was rubbish!
I am now a firm believer of you get what you pay for.0 -
£35-45 for width fitted, leather school shoes. They last about 2 terms.
A bit more or less for casual shoes. Trainers and ballet pumps usually cost a bit less, winter boots sometimes a bit more.
I have two girls, both with very narrow (D) but large for their age (they're tall) feet.0 -
I am a big fan of kickers
I had them all through secondary school but when I was at primary school in Germany I had Clarks. I vividly remember my mam taking me to the Naafi to get my feet measured and crying cos it hurt!!
We've just bought the baby a pair of kickers and he also has a little pair of timberlands x:j:jOur gorgeous baby boy born 2nd May 2011 - 12 days overdue!!:j:j0 -
Clarkes shoes must be quite a bargain now, comparatively. They used to cost me £25-£30 a pair for my son 15 years ago, and they are still about the same price now by the sound of it. Money well worth spending.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -
I go for Clarkes and pay £25-30. I get the ones with the rubber "bumper" over the toes as I've found that these last much longer than any other type. With my son (age 6) I can get away with one pair of black shoes and one pair of trainers for the year. My daughter probably gets 2 pairs of shoes a year as she's still growing pretty fast.0

I tend to buy school shoes about every 3 months, my lot are dreadful with shoes, and after years of buying clarks/startrite, I finally have realised that they are just the same quality and fit as cheaper versions!
I currently have been buying them in next, and spend about £20-£30 a pair, less if I can get them in sales (which I have just done, thank-you next VIP slot!) My 2 DD's sometimes have them for 6 months, I'm lucky if my sons last 3 months (doesn't matter where they come from!).
I budget about £20 per month for school shoes!0
