how much do you spend on kids shoes?

Hi Not sure where to put this thread really, so will try it here...

DD is starting school in Sept and also have 2 DSs at school. They will all need school shoes for september, and i'm totally stuck on how much to spend on them!

I ususally go for cheap (under £15, ususally under £10) on thier shoes, although I just bought my DD some lelli kellys for £25!

Thing is cheap shoes are rubbish quality so they go through 2-3 pairs per school year. DD has gone through at least 4 pairs of shoes and sandals at nursery in the last couple of months, and same thing will happen at school I guess.

So what is reasonable? Given that I have 3 pairs to buy... thanks!

I buy my kids shoes from Asda Or Next, dd2 has 2-3 pairs a year due to her shoe size changing, and dd1 has 2 pairs a year, only due to her scuffing them.

    Don't go for patent.

I buy my 3 school shoes in August - about £30-£40 each. If they wear them out during the year (DS1 is worst for that cos he plays flipping footie in them) then I buy cheaper ones (George at Asda) to last them till the end of term.

In April I buy new trainers for all three and sandals for the younger two for the summer. Trainers are around £30 each - Clarks for the younger kids, Nike or Adidas for eldest. Replacements as and when needed but their feet don't seem to grow particularly fast - they tend to wear out before they grow out tbh.

October is wellies time - usually all under £10! :D:money:

I bought Startrite for DS and found them a load of expensive rubbish-cost £45 but were falling apart by Christmas-badly scuffed by day 1 and the stiching was coming off by Christmas. Bought DD startrite and they scuffed after the first week. I've found Clarks football style school shoes brilliant-they still look as new after 8 months heavy wear and they cost about £27. They'll still do him for September but I bet he'll won't play along and will grow again! however not sure how old your dss are-I know as kids get older wearing Clarks isn't cool anymore!

I buy DD (aged 5) school shoes from Clarks BUT i wait until the sale is on, instead of being around £30 they come down to between £14 - £16, i take her in with me, get her measured and fitted and also buy the next size up if they are in the sale too.

I made the mistake of buying her first pair of school shoes from M&S, within 2 months they were falling apart. I went to the Clarks sale in January and the pair i got then are still going strong, i did get her the next size up too and she can wear these when she goes back in September.

I will defo be stocking up again when the next Clarks sale is on!!!

same here clarks sale now and again, if not then asda..my kids wreck their shoes so quick, school isn't so strict on shoes though as they take the shoes off as soon as they go in the school and wear indoor shoes so they could go to school in trainers or wellies if they wished!lol..but no I prefer black school shoes;) x

My kids are older - one has disabilities and wears Timberlands with special insoles. The boots cost £50 from Wyndsors, which I think is expensive, but his feet don't grow quickly and he can be in a pair of boots for two years before his feet have a growth spurt.

My other son is 11 and his feet have always grown really quickly. In the past, it hasn't been unusual for him to have needed a larger size by October half term. He's also really heavy on his feet and shoes just don't seem to last, no matter where I get them from , or how much I pay. About four years ago, I gave up on more expensive shoes and started to go to Wyndsors - cheap enough to replace regularly. At the moment, he is wearing work boots. He needed them for Scout camp and started to wear them for school when his school shoes gave up the ghost. I paid £22 for them, but his feet haven't grown since December :) so they have definitely been worth the money. I'm hoping that his feet have stopped growong now - he's size 11 and has bigger feet than any of the four male teachers in his primary school

I've always bought Clarks school shoes. They do cost more, but they are much more hard wearing and last much longer. I think it works out cheaper buying one Clarks pair, than several cheaper pairs over the same time period.

Shoes get seriously abused in the playground when they are running around, playing football etc. I've had boys school shoes that have been worn for a full school year and they've still had plenty of wear in them when they grew out of them.
Here I go again on my own....

i always buy clarkes for things 1 and 3
thing 2 has hush puppies as she has got long extremely thin feet, (the wierdo lol)

both are very good sturdy shoes which considering they are the shoes they wear the most they need to be comfy and well fitted
If we can put a man on the moon...how come we cant put them all there?

I am another one voting for Clarks shoes. They wear well, polish up like new and my daughter always outgrows them before they look scruffy. I pay around £30 a pair, and in the sales they are around £18.
