    If you really do spend £145 a week (?) on fags and lottery (is this possible or is it a wind up?) that's enough money to sponsor 27 children!!

    I cant believe anyone in their right mind would spend £45 a week on the lottery (or otherwise known as the stupid tax) and £100 on fags! Thats insane! Thats £7540 a year!! That would pay for a few nice holidays or the mortgage etc.

    Are you sure you dont mean per month z1a??

    Claire - I didn't say "on the lottery" I said lotteries.
    And, no, I don't mean per month.

    P.S. - We do have nice holidays, go abroad at least twice a year, I just find it difficult to save for them.

    Mrand Mrsb - I can assure you that saving 27 African childrens lives would NOT give me more pleasure than doing the lotteries!

    z1a, you really shouldnt try to kickstart the economy on your own, seriously, if you are being honest, you need to buy a couple of jewel encrusted notebooks and cartier pens so that you & your partner can note down every single thing you buy, then you will know where its all going.
    It is of course possible your partner is salting it away with a view to leaving.
    for what its worth for three adults we spend around £100/week.

    After checking, I'm actually worse than I thought with money;

    My weekly income = £547 net. Wifes weekly income = £201 net. + Family allowance £33 = A total of £781 / week = £3382 / month.
    My monthly outgoings are;
    Mortgage £345
    Poll tax £115
    Gas & Electric £150
    Car ins. £48
    House ins. £26
    Travel ins. £8
    Water £22
    Cable / BB / phone £72
    TV Licence £13
    Mobiles £30

    A total of £829 = £191/week.
    leaving £590 out of which we spend about £120 on main shop, £45 on lotteries, and £40 petrol, which means we are still spending about £385 a week on incidental items!!:eek:
    No debts either, apart from mortgage.
    Definitely need to find out where it's going apart from the £100 + on fags, will work on that one first.

    Jeez, i'd cry if i spent that much in a year. When I was a student what you get in 2 months more than covered me for a year. I'd say put the money you put on the lottery into premium bonds as the lottery is a waste of time and a joke, cut the internet etc down (can get packages for less than 40 quid for the lot combined - we have the internet and phone for 19.50 per month so it can definately be reduced). Shop around for your electric and gas bill, and check lights (when i lived in a shared house it often was like blackpool illuminations when getting in, if all of them are turned off it will make a difference). And make a food plan as if you lived off 200 for food and put 150 away every week after a year you would have 7500 for a rainy day/holiday. Saving every weeks better than borrowing and with that amount i'm sure you can save some
    :T:T :beer: :beer::beer::beer: to the lil one :) :beer::beer::beer:

    If smoking and the lottery bring you pleasure then why shouldn't you spend your money on them - you have earned it. In fact I would encourage you to spend more of your income on these and also booze if you like as the more tax you pay the less the rest of us will have to fork out :)
