that is definitely not enough in this day and age, me and my partner have to spend over £200 a week in food just for the 2 of us, £200 for 2 adults and 3 children? you must be really struggling.

Sorry but that's complete nonsense. You "have to" spend £30 per day just for the two of you? Do you shop at Harrods?

 £200 a week on just 2 adults??! You can eat healthily for around £60-£80 a week for the 2 of you. I live alone and spend no more than £25 a week on food and toilettries. I am veggie so that cuts a few costs, but you can definately reduce that if you wanted to.

we have less than £200 per week left and there is me hubby and 3 children under 6 and 3 cats so its possible yes, it just takes some planning. we would spend alot less if hubby and kids would be will ing to try different things and i had the energy to cook more.

What on earth are you eating? Gold?! I only spend £60 to £80 a month on food for myself, and I feed the BF most weekends too.

    Seriously?

That means since the end of May 7 weeks ago you've spent more on food for the two of you than I've spent on food, household (ie washing powder etc), toiletries, and nights out since January 1st 2010. (which comes in at £1,348.84*)

*I can do it to the penny because I went back to being a student this time last year, I'd been monitoring my finances to work out what I needed to live on before I did, and then thought I may as well carry on just to make sure things don't get out of control.

And that figure is artificially high because it includes pub meals and takeaways when I've had mystery shops because I was measuring it for lifestyle not just pure expense. On most of those occassions I'd have just had a meal at home instead. Plus as an out of town season ticket holder I spend two days every fortnight travelling and having hot food at train stations (it's winter so you want it for warmth as much as food) which is included.

    2 adults 3 children aged 3,4,5.
after all bills are paid we are left with £200 for food petrol(£30) and general living a week.
my sister says thats a lot but we struggle, would anyone else struggle on that amount ?

In similar circs , kids1,3,4 we had 5.20 after basics and would have given an arm for 10 fags!. What is important is that you have a family and you work with what you have to achieve your aims and put in place plans that are achievable to improve your situ . Promulgate all the info from your post and make informed decisions to improve your unique situation...this is about you and yours.....good luck

we're a family of 5 and I have £100 a week (after bills/travel) for food, toiletries, cleaning products, clothing and entertainment. It isn't easy, you have to put some thought and planning into it, and make difficult choices (eg new top or bottle of wine!) but mostly I enjoy the challenge.
BTW jalaneme- £200 a week on food for 2 adults seems a bit excessive unless you're eating out every night or are both obese...

That equates to £13,000 gross income just on food!

Wouldn't eating out come under entertainment?

    Whaaaaat ???

There are 5/6 of us in our family (depending on when 19 year old step son decides to stay) and we eat very, very well (including the odd bottle of Vino Collapso!) for around £130 per week. In addition we always seem to have a 'free' week once every 6-8 weeks or so when we just clear out the freezer.
