Because it is a Building Regulation requirement.

    That's why.

So show me where in Part M that says it must be notified, dont just go quoting things with nothing to back them up.

Can you show me where it says this because as far as i can read in the part p guide its says that you can add lighting points (switches and lights) to existing circuits aslong as they are not in special locations like kitchens or bathrooms

click this link and go to page 12

    http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/uploads/br/BR_PDF_ADP_2006.pdf

Check out under where it says "Work that is not in a kitchen or special location"

It then goes onto say "adding lighting points (Light fitting and switchs) to and existing ciruit.

As far as i can see this is not swapping old for new but its states ADDING

Can you show me where it says otherwise?
LIGHT FITTING AND SWITCHES NOT ADDITIONAL WIRING !!!

    NON-NOTIFIABLE

    1. Work consisting of -

    (a) replacing any fixed electrical equipment which does not include the provision of -
    (i) any new fixed cabling, or
    (ii) a consumer unit;

As it is a light switch it should also comply with Part M of the building regulations.

As you can see from the above. I said it must comply with Part M.

I never said Part M had to be notified.

Are you drunk, by the way?

Regulations are not LAW, iam not cherry picking, certain works have rules and regulations about dress code, if someone went it with trainers does that mean they are breaking the LAW because its there works rules and regulations? Didnt think so.

What points have i made that where wrong?

If it resulted in an accident ?????

To "Add a new lighting point (light fittings and switches) then you need to install wiring obviousley, and PART P says that adding a new lighting point to a new circuit not in a special location is NOT NOTIFIABLE

Like i said before ive never dealt with part P but this is how i read it

I actually work for one of the biggest building contractors in Scotland who are very tough on H&S and who get us in atleast 3 times a year for updates and anything new that comes out.

Iam still waiting for you too tell me where i was wrong in my first posts on the matter?

    I already have.
    Read page 8.

The householder is clearly not competent to carry out inspection and testing and therefore "other relevant safety provisions" are not satisfactory.
    Read the Regulations.
It is only non notifiable if other relevent safety provisions are satisfactory.

As the OP is clearly not qualified to inspect and test a modification carried out on an existing circuit, Building Control should be informed, upon which point they become responsible for arranging inspection and testing.
