Android phone won't delete messages

I have an Android phone, HTC Tattoo.

This phone over the past year has become really slow and it even takes about 3 mins to open the messages.

I decided to try and delete my messages thinking it would help free up space and speed the phone up, but when I try and delete nothing happens.

I click on delete all for a group of messages, the phone says "are you sure" and I click yes , then nothing happens and the messages are still there.

Does anyone know of a way to speed this phone up, or an alternative way of deleting messages on an Android phone.

Thanks

If its a problem with deleting ALL messages in one go, suggest trying to deleted a couple of messages at a time.
Ought to speed up enough to let you delete ALL in one go after a bit.

If you have conversations running with thousands of messages in then you will find that it takes a long long time to delete. Set it up to remove them them go make a cup of tea, check it or even leave it for a couple of hours.

My old desire done this when I didn't delete the messages for months

Go onto the app market and download SMS Delete, you can then delete messages meeting various criteria (such as all messages older than x number of days, delete all messages from a contact, delete all messages containing a certain word etc etc)

It also lets you backup all your texts to your memory card.

Most importantly, it tells you how many it is deleting and counts them as it's doing it.

Android does appear to be very slow at deleting texts for some reason, but this app certainly helps, at least you know it's doing something...

Well the one I use is by "Best of Best Android app" and the icon for it is a yellow envelope with a green arrow and it's just called "SMS delete"

The only other app this company have on the market is "Root App Remover" (which I haven't used) but it may be easier to find it through that?

Let me know if you are still struggling :)

It looks like it's been deleted from the market :(

I haven't found anything else that works nearly as well as this, most programs either delete messages or back them up, don't seem to be many that do both...

Im not too worried about having the delete option I can manage without that. Just need something to save my messages. What it is I received some pics in a message and I want to transfer them to my pc for safe keeping. The software that comes with my phone doesnt allow this.

Ah, ok. Well in that case there is another solution.

    I use this: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync&hl=en

This backs up all your texts to a Gmail account and then you can save the pics from Gmail to your computer. The advantage of this is you can access your texts from anywhere if you should ever lose your phone.

If it is only photos that you actually want to save though, why not just save the photo from the text message onto your phone (or memory card) and then transfer them to your computer either using the USB cable or Bluetooth?

I dont seem to have an option to save the photo to either the phone or the memory card. I can only save the messages to sim which is no good. When I connect the phone to the pc using the samsung software there is no option to download message to pc nor does it find the photos. Sorry u can tell I am new to this.
