Cant work out who is cheapest to move to, if to move at all

Hi

I am with talktalk at the moment and am out of contract by a couple of months. We are paying £6.50 a month for internet and £12.50 a month for phone rental. This is their essential package and is fine for us. I have no idea how much data allowance we use. I was told by talktalk that they have no way of checking how much we do use so they can not charge us if we go over anyway. Talktalk was a nightmore to set up with, but we haven't had any problems since then. It has not been down in the 2 years I have been with them.

I am looking to see if I can get what I want (the equilivant of their essentials package) for any cheaper than this with talktalk or another provider. We are moving house (a few streets away) in 7 weeks though into a house which is currently already with talktalk. I am hoping this should make the talktalk move simple.

Questions are-
  • Am I right in thinking the move with talktalk will be carried out in, say 24 hours as the house is already with talktalk (they say the move is free)?
  • Would I be cheaper on another contract? With talktalk again or a new provider?
  • Do you think I am best to wait to move provider until we move out?
I cant be without internet for a few days though so shall I move provider at all?

there is the option of a new contract with talktalk which is £12.50 line rental. Its internet is half price for 3 months (full price £6.50, half therefore £3.25). Its an 18 month contract.

Can I get better than this?

Unlikely, it's one of the cheapest tariff, as long as you are on a TT LLU'd exchange. The other budget tariff (Plusnet Value) has a 10GB data limit.
You can monitor your data usage quite easily by downloading and installing free software such as Netmeter.
TT do monitor your usage, the limit on Essentials is 40GB per month.

thanks, what is 'TT LLU'd exchange'? Do you think I am best signing up for the new 3 months half price internet with talktalk then? Shall I wait until after I move?

    Talk Talk Local Loop Unbundled.
I don't see the point in signing upust before you are about to move.

I rung talktalk and they said that since I am moving I would have to sign up to another 12 month contract at new address. I was put through to talk about my costs. It is £6.50 a month for internet and £12.60 for landline. I have got a 12 month contract at new address for £4.50 for net and £12.60 for landline.

You can check your TT usage online. Log onto 'my account' then go to phone & broadband > broadband usage
