Days out around East Yorkshire

If you are going up the coast as far as Robins Hoods Bay, you might want to visit 'Heartbeat Country' on the North Yorkshire Moors near Goathland. The scenery is spectacular and there is a waterfall in the area called 'Falling Foss'.
Cayton Bay is nearer Bridlington & also worth a visit. In Scarborough itself 'Poundland' is quite a nice surprise. Note that there is Park & Ride in Scarborough at Eastfield where B/Q is situated.

There is a pirate boat that sails from Bridlington.
there are plenty of cliff walks around Bempton and fossils to be had with a walk along the beach from Hornsea to Bridlingon'
Plenty of fresh air and Birds at Spurn Point.
Hornsea is pretty sleepy (bring a book or 2)although you could hire a rowing boat around the mere.
I found the ice cream at the shop where there is a little pool and various paraphalia for sale quite tasteless and I get my fish and chips from the cafe/chip shop on the way to the freeport (follow local shop sign)
I cycled from Hull along the old railway track two weeks ago- very pleasant ride(last stage of Trans pennine trail)
Moorsbus link is useful as it picks up from Beverley ( I think you can park fo free in Tescos opposite if you buy somthing)

Hornsea to Whitby is quite a trek! I used to live near the Humber Bridge and remember days out at Normanby Park and Elsham Hall in Lincolnshire.
Danes Dyke near Flamborough Head was a favourite "hidden gem" and alternative to Brid / Hornsea on occasion.
For the grown ups - not on the coast, but still! - there's always Sam Smiths Brewery in Tadcaster http://www.samuelsmithsbrewery.co.uk/0
