Want to go half veggie

More insects die in the meat industry as those animals are fed plants, hay etc. So yes even though with veg production some die it is a lot less that with eating meat as well. you are using less crops than a meateater because it takes more crops to feed the animals first. (10 times more grain to make a pound of beef compared to just eating the pound of grain directly)Be your own superhero :j0

You can get calcium from other sources. Animal sources aren't particularly great anyway as the animal protein has a negative effect on the absorption of calcium.
As a vegan I don't kill anything. I don't know if you have heard of the Jains but they follow a very strict form of vegetarianism where even micro-organisms are protected.
Organic food production isn't vegan - or even vegetarian - as it uses animal by-products. There is such a thing as stock-free organic which is vegan, but it's probably only feasible if you are growing your own.
Interesting stuff, Thanks.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
I popped to the shop this morning for a baguette to go with the mushroom soup I'd made for lunch and they were selling yesterday's ones for 10p. I cut it into good sized pieces, halved them lengthwise, brushed with garlic butter, toasted them, spread with HM pesto and HG tomatoes topped with goats' cheese and HG basil and toasted them again. Would make a lovely meat free evening meal with some salad from your garden.0

Just had a look at the Redwood foods site and some of the stuff looks really nice, if a bit pricey. Do any shops sell it?
And this brings me to another thing, Asda where I shop doesn't seem to have much veggie stuff at all, almost nothing tbh.
Where do you all shop for your alternative milks and tufu/quorn etc?Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
It is a big Asda yes. Maybe I haven't been looking hard enough.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

I get quite few things from Holland and barret- they do quite a bit of redwoods stuff in there. For example the vegan cheese I get is about £2.09 which is about the same price as the normal cheese i buy. Also if you have a local Asian supermarket check it out as they do a lot of veggie stuff and a lot cheaper :-)Be your own superhero :j0

All my milk/tofu etc I can get in my sainsburys and Tesco. Maybe you could ask next time you go as sometimes they put them in odd places!!!Be your own superhero :j0

I THINK that it's only available at Holland and Barrett. They often have deals there where things are either buy one get one half price, or buy one get one free on anything in the shop. That's when I stock upI've also got some stuff free if it's on the sell by date or the day after - the manager says he can't sell it but he's happy to give it to me
:T
Actually I've just remembered - my local health food shop also sells a bit of Redwood stuff too, so it's probably just health food shops.0 -
lol @ half veggie, no such thing0

I have to confess I always feel sorry for people eating Quorn anything and while some of it isnt bad, its not really all that good either - as well as being mass produced, ugly and generally uninspiring.
Personally speaking I'd try and investigate meals that are just meat free rather than worrying about finding a meat free alternative to go with your two veg.
Making stuff from scratch can be a pain if you're not into cooking but I'd encourage you to have a go at whipping something up - using something soya mince or tofu isn't hard if you can do the basics and is usually 10 times nicer than some grey thing that's supposed to look like a sausage!0
