Want to go half veggie

My cousin has just decided to become a vegetarian, though she is keeping on with eating fish and seafood so is a pescetarian not a vegetarian.
I have never really been a big meat eater. My partner was. I do like chicken and my partner loved eating meat. However, we have been vegetarian for a long while now on the grounds of animals abuse. We do not want to be adding to the suffering of animals who have feelings just like people. There are a number of other things as well but the main basis for us is not that we do not like meat, it's the animal cruelty. So we do not eat any meat, or fish anymore.
When we first went vegetarian we did it overnight, just stopped eating all meat and it was easy for us as I really like cooking as does my partner and Google is your friend, there's tons of vegetarian easy to cook recipes online.
We tried Quorn but after a few weeks realized that my partner was allergic or something. There have been a number of cases of people having extreme bad reactions to Quorn: Quorn Health Complaints
Asda's meat free range is OK and didn't give him any stomach problems but we really don't buy that much at all, meaning the things in the brown boxes.
Asda also have these:
- Bolognese
- Savoury Mince
- Mexican Style Chilli
- Burger Mix
The above we use for meals if we are short on time or just too tired to do something right from scratch. They are all quick and easy though with most I do add some tomatoes. The burger mix is nice but needs seasoning and we also add some onions and herbs.
Linda McCartney range is the best I have found and I love some of those products. I tend to get them when they are on for a £1 instead of the £2.18 for just two pieces in a box. Our favourites are the:
- Sausages
- Cheese & Red Onion Escalopes
- Cheese, Leek and Red Onion Plaits
We stocked up on a few things today that were on special.
However we do always rely on 'meat substitute products' You can make really tasty and easy meals without buying all of the above. Tonight we had some vegetarian easy and cheap pizzas, were very yummy. Vegetables, beans, pulses, pasta, and lots more to cook with and you can make really tasty things.
There are lots of sites online with help and suggestions. YouTube is another good one to look on for ideas for meals.0 -
I just mentioned this on Greenfingered but thought to add it here for future reference. Chinese crispy duck pancakes...the duck can be replaces with aubergine. A local restaurant local to us used to batter aubergine chips and deep fry so that you got the crispness from the batter, I like it just grilled. IMO courgette would work too. I've also had cougettes battered and friend in italy...the bater was probably semol;ina based, and highly dseasoned and possibly one of the loveliest things I've ever eaten0
