I have a food purse which I put one hundred pounds in per calender month in,this more than covers my needs and I often have at least 15 to 20 pounds left over which I put into an account towards our holidays. It just means organising a decent shopping list/menu for a month in advance0

£80 a month to stock up the freezer and cupboards and then £10 a week top-up, so average £30 a week.
1 tip for you buying fresh food on your own is expensive as it goes out of date too quickly before I eat it I noticed and I spent too much money that way.0 -
wowzers we spend about 100-120 a week
Me, girlfriend and small dog...
I need to address this I think... although that does most weeks include a £15 blu ray that gets ebayed once watched0 -
me and my boyfriend do a £60 shop once every month then buy little bits and pieces no more than £20's worth on top of that. I do cook from scratch the majority of time and spend abit more when theres really good deals. I shop really carefully, buying only bread when its reduced for the freezer
veg & eggs from the farm shop and poundland for the crisps and chocolate
We dont have to be this careful but i just like to save money really
have fish and chips once a week but my boyfriend pays for that
The best ways to save money is to plan ahead
before you go shopping meal plan dinners and teas for the week ahead so your not buying things that will get wasted or will go out of date before you use them
also try and find out what time your supermarket reduces things, mine does around 5pm, thats where ive just been and picked up pizza's for 35p, rolls for 25p and loaves of bread for 35p, all for the freezer
good luck x 0 -

I spend £40 a week for three of us. £40 per week for one person seems a huge amount to be spendingThe opposite of what you know...is also true0

Crumbs I spend £10 a week on food only. But then again I shop after 8pm at night and I find lot's of bargains from the reduced section. I have very often bought sliced meat at 29p and made sandwiches for work with bread I have picked up for 9p. Don't get me wrong I still have fruit, veg and a big evening meal when I get home but its probably because I eat mostly pasta dishes why my food bill is quite low. It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0

Since I only live with my fiancee we tend to buy our groceries every 2nd and last week of the month.
Normally I spend £100 every month and eating out isn't a part of that budget yet.
We sometimes over budget since we love to eat out and pig out:rotfl:
What I do now to stop the overspending is to buy a lot of meats and every week do veggie shopping.
We're trying our best not to go out that much since its costing us too much and budgeting is a nightmare:eek::A work to live or live to work? :A0 -
I have started getting fruit and veg from a stall at my local car boot on a Sunday.
The last time I got 2lbs of cherry tomatoes, 2lbs of onions, 2 melons and a large root of ginger for £3.30. I walked away with a whole bag of tasty fruit and veg and questioned why the hell I was putting money into supermarkets coffers!0 -
The economy of scale is somewhat against those who are shopping for just one person. With unit prices going down as volume increases, I expect bigger families can spend less per person. I do still buy the big family size packets of rice, pasta, washing powder, coffee and anything that lasts, but I can't buy large packets of fruit and vegetables and do worry about being able to use up multi buy offers on things like milk or eggs. For things that might go bad before I can eat them, I settle for smaller packets and pay more per unit because I believe savings per unit are quickly exceeded by the cost of throwing some away. Eating fresher food is nicer too.
Unfortunately a lot of supermarket vouchers have minimum spends that are out of reach to someone shopping for just one person too. £4 off £40 spend is great, but just too much for my average weekly shopping.
If you do want to take advantage of these vouchers, multi buy offers and lower unit prices for bigger packets of stuff, go shopping with a friend.0
