Angry at Next!

I am pretty angry at next right now and just need to vent and get it out of my system!!
I opened an online account with them a couple of months ago. I hadn't actually intended on doing it but I ended up with one. I admit I do not have a great credit rating but I was pleased that they gave me a small credit limit of £250. I ordered about £40 worth of kids clothes and made the minimum payment when the first statement arrived.
Then I ordered another £70 worth of clothes for myself. SO I was not going crazy and spending up and over my limit. I made the next payment as usual.
I then noticed that it said I had no credit limit/no available credit. So I politely emailed them asking what was wrong.
They replied
I have fired off an email complaining because they have actually not adhered to their own email (the part in red) as they did actually put me "overlimit" by their actions. Even after I made the minimum payment they had requested - it still leaves me overlimit the grand sum of 65p which I expect they will take advantage of and charge me for.
I am pretty angry that they have done this without having the courtesy to even tell me that they were going to do this - I honestly would not have cared had they simply emailed and let me know. I was not planning on spend more on the account anyway.
I have transferred money today and am going to pay off the whole balance and close their stupid account. It is clearly not worth jumping through Next's hoops to be deemed worthy of being their customer.
As a result, I am now determined to give them as much bad publicity as I can on every possible forum and message board. I know it won't achieve anything but it will make me feel much better :rotfl:

I am sorry that there has been a recent change to the credit facility on your flexible account.
As outlined in our terms and conditions, we review all customer credit limits on a regular basis, incorporating information provided by an external credit reference agency. We hope you will understand that as a responsible lender, we sometimes have to make difficult decisions based on these reviews, which will inevitably disappoint some customers.
Following a recent review of your account we must advise that the credit limit on your account has been reduced to £100.00. You will therefore be unable to place further orders, unless a credit or debit card payment is made which covers both the full value of the order, plus any minimum monthly payment due.
Your account will continue to be reviewed and your available credit will be managed in line with this. Should the account balance exceed your current credit limit, the credit limit detailed on your statement and registered with the credit reference agency, will match that balance. This will continue, until your credit limit is increased, or the account balance is reduced to an amount equal to, or below the credit limit.

Either way, I have just paid off the whole lot and closed it over the telephone, and posted on facebook about it and a couple of other places.BSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0

There have been a few complaints around about Next credit cards. A few months ago I was asked in store to have a free catalogue - just put your email and address on the form the woman said. I started filling it in then looked on the back to see that you were actually signing up to open a Next account and to be credit checked. Very naughty.
You have to wonder what the point is of giving someone a limit of 250 quid and immediately reducing it to 100 - other than to sucker people in to having an account.
Stay well away from store cards is my advice, the interest rates are horrendous.0 -

So you think it is not wrong to change the credit limit without telling me, which in turn makes my account overlimit? and I suppose you will say they are not wrong if they charge me for that privilege?
They in fact made me about £11 over the limit they set.
Either way, it is not silly because I did not need the account and now I have no debt owing :money:BSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0 -

IF, have they charged you for going over the limit?? No and if they had of charged you then would have more than likely refunded the charge after you explained that they had changed the limit.
Cutting your nose off to spite your face springs to mind, they haven't done anything wrong.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

No, as already stated, I didn't need the account anyway, so I have lost nothing. They are in the wrong as I already said by reducing the limit without telling me and by making the account overlimit.... please read the posts before commenting.BSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0 -

I have read the thread thanks and I still stand by comment. Whilst you didn't need the account it could have been good for improving your credit rating, had you of used it within your limits and paid the balance off in full each month.
Clearly they changed your credit limit after the first statement and would have probably put it in writing with or before your 2nd statement turned up. You have presumed they were going to charge but haven't so have decided to jack the account in. If your not that bothered about it and didn't need the account why worry about, you have paid it off and closed the account, job done.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

You are completely wrong.
firstly I have not used the account "outwith my limits". You have just proved you have not read my original post.
I had a credit limit of £250 and spent £110.I opened an online account with them a couple of months ago. I hadn't actually intended on doing it but I ended up with one. I admit I do not have a great credit rating but I was pleased that they gave me a small credit limit of £250. I ordered about £40 worth of kids clothes and made the minimum payment when the first statement arrived.

I then noticed that it said I had no credit limit/no available credit. So I politely emailed them asking what was wrong.
Secondly - It was on the second statement that I noticed there was no credit limit or available credit, nor any message stating that the credit limit had been lowered/removed or otherwise.
You just proved me correct in that you did not read my original post, thanks
And as you just put it, job done, balance in full cleared - now that can't be bad for my credit rating can it.BSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0 -
Clearly you never read my post as I never said you weren't living within your limits, I stated,
Whilst you didn't need the account it could have been good for improving your credit rating, had you of used it within your limits and paid the balance off in full each month So if you had kept the card and made sure you kept the spending within your limits and paid the balance off in full each month you would have got some nice green marks on your credit file.
Secondly you never mentioned anything about receiving a second statement, you had only mentioned about it being an online account, it came across that you had been online to make a payment. Not everyone waits for the bill to land on the door mat before paying it, if its an online account!!Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

You need to be careful how you write things as this implies I did not use the account within limits.
I clearly stated I had the account for two months - hence having made two payments implies two statements received... It is still a statement or bill whether you get it by email or post - online account or not.BSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0
