i had one of these
http://www.fisher-price.com/us/products/product.asp?id=5663
when i was a kid and i expect loads of other mse'ers did too. so i got one for chops as one of her crimbo presents.
its crap!
its made of the cheapest plastic ever, it looks like it comes from poundland rather than £5.00 in woolies (i know still cheap to buy but...). and you cant use the receiver on it because the curly wire attaching it to the phone is about 4 centimeters long and thats it.
maybe thats a safety feature incase kiddies wrap the cord round their necks but then explain why the pull along string was about 3/4 of a meter in length?
is it worth complaining to fisher price? i dont want money back or owt like that but i do feel they should be informed that what was once a classic toy and is still being touted as a classic toy is now just a piece of poundland looking cheap plastic tat.

IMO Fisher Price have a great customer services dept. Give them a call by all means, even if just to make yourself feel a little better (but be nice to them! as they got me out of a real hole earlier this year)."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

Same with loads of things now.
One Christmas a few years ago, I bought all old games I had as a kid for my kids.
Buckaroo, Connect 4, Guess Who, Ker Plunk etc etc
They fall apart within hours now, nasty cheap crappy plastic stuff.
Shame cos I loved them and I know my kids would have loved them if they didn't break apart within a day! GrrrrrrrrTank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
I was going to buy one of these for my friends dd, i had one when I was little and so do both of my kids (dd passed hers down to ds) and they used to be much better quality than they are now.
When I saw how short the cable on the phone was I put it back on the shelf, it's totally useless. I know it's all to do with health and safety etc, but when was the last time you heard about a child strangling themselves on a toy phone??
I would email them anthill, it sounds as though your dd has found another potential safety issue... risk of concussion!! lol0 -
I was disappointed with the plastic Little Snoopy that my son had. He wasn't as good as my wooden one.
We had an ELC telephone, and that had a really short cord too. Here I go again on my own....0 -

http://www.fisher-price.com/uk/help/customerservice.asp - Will this help?
DD had one of these last year for her birthday - and I can agree that the cord is way too short - she has before now smacked herself with the phone - because it's short.0 -
Thing is, when we were kids there wasnt all this health and safety nonsense, nowadays a toy has to be completely bomb proof or expect to be sued.
I remember being given one of those enormous donkeys from Spain in about 1981 and it was held together with 6" nailsI didnt die from it. I think they take things a little too far, afterall, a child who is young enough to be playing with that phone really should be under supervision anyway!
