) then they would have thought they had more time before their child started school.
Not in my area it's not, when my eldest started formal education 10 years ago it was the term before their 5th birthday. The double intake ceased here in about 1990.0 -
Your post suggested that as the OP hadn't researched the new school starting age they had somehow failed the child. That is insulting. The only reason why it matters is if the OP was desperate to start their 4 year old as soon as possible. The OP isn't. Even if the OP had known in advanceof the closing date, I believe from what he posted that the result would be the same. There is a place in the school if they want it in September so how has the child's education, welfare or future been jeopardised?moomoomama27 wrote: »Nor do I! That was never my point!
I do more than actively educate all three of my children at home. I firmly believe that learning is just as valuable at home as it is in school. So we're on the same page there!0 -
Well where I live it changed this year for this forth coming September.moomoomama27 wrote: »Not in my area it's not, when my eldest started formal education 10 years ago it was the term before their 5th birthday. The double intake ceased here in about 1990.0 -

No not at all. I didn't once mention anyone had failed anyone. I am just very surprised that someone wouldn't know, given that it's what most parents chat about for months before they even fill out application forms! As well as nurserys that use a phasing in schedule!
My issue is more with the attitude of the OP, rather than whether he should or shouldn;t start his child at school at age 5!0 -

So there lies the confusion!0 -

Sorry that statement suggests that because the OP may have been caught up in the daily grind they failed the child by not putting it first (in your opinion). Or maybe you just wanted to let us know what a great parent you are?0 -

Now you're being argumentative, and reading into posts for arguments sake. I was commenting on what *I*, for *my* family feel is more important! So with respect you're reading things into what I typed in response, that aren't there!0 -
I think you mean assumption. In your area they work one way so you assumed it was the same every where else. It isn't. People are to quick to stand in judgment of others when they don't have the full facts.moomoomama27 wrote: »So there lies the confusion!
At my daughter's nursery they didn't talk about school for months prior to application. I think in local village schools where nearly everyone goes to the same school what is there to discuss? The OPs child goes to a village school it may well be the same situation there. Just because something happens in one way where you are doesn't mean there aren't other ways of doing it. Maybe some of the PP on this thread need to consider that before they castigate the OP.0 -
I'm not being argumentative I'm trying to get narrow minded people see that they way in which they do things isn't the only way. Some people on MSE are so judgmental.moomoomama27 wrote: »Now you're being argumentative, and reading into posts for arguments sake.
