I average around 20 or so forms a week - some just ask for CVs and I had my CV redone recently by JHP Training (for free) and these are the same people that I did my Food Hygiene Certificate with - I need to go and collect that because I doubt they will send it to me. This is a job I spotted yesterday and applied as quick as anything.

This is the first interview I will have had since August. Admittedly although I was in dire straits in July, I didnt actually sign on until September because I didnt think I could:( I have had so many knock backs that I have almost lost the will to live. What I hate is those that don't bother responding and get antsy when you ring them up to enquire. I have to do this as part of my evidence and there are others who will reply giving spurious reasons eg. spelling & grammar - I can spell and my grammar is top notch. I think they see the words self employed and don't even consider the person behind the business. I have even been told by temp agencies that I am unemployable:mad:

I seem to have swings and roundabouts when it comes to stuff too - there are days when I am incredibly depressed and there are other days when I am not. Maybe that is down to being on my own all day and not going out interacting with folks? I really want this job and already have ideas on how they can improve their business (sorry, I am an ideas person).

I try and look for work every day and don't always rely on the jobcentre website either although I have to say that I have looked. I use event industry websites, catering websites (this is for hotel jobs and other event jobs), jobs.ac.uk for university/college jobs. I even found a job for someone who has been unemployed for 3 years and couldnt find HGV work - I pointed him in the direction of a national carrier who don't advertise through the jobcentre and voila he has a job.

Good luck with your quest - you will find something I am sure.

I was made redundant in September and have been to Job Centre Plus for the first time in my life. I honestly don't think they know what to do with professional people or people that actually want to work!

Interestingly they told me at the start of December that nobody recruits at this time of year so it is very odd that I got approached about three jobs this week (contracts varying from one to six months), got interviewed for two and got offered both of them.

You know your area of expertise best and through your networking skills you know where to look for the right type of jobs for you. I know it is disheartening to get no response at all but keep going, there will be something out there just for you.:D

When things were going pear shaped my Mum always used to say that things were meant to happen and she was right. there was always a better opportunity in the future. But I hated her saying it all the same :rotfl:

  • Horace, I'm delighted you have an interview. And so pleased it's for a job you really want. Will be thinking of you on Monday and keeping fingers crossed that they offer the post to you. You've certainly put all the effort in. You deserve to succeed.
