is the width of the tyre seriously going to affect the revolutions ... lol the profile depending on the wheels fitted would affect the speedo, but not the width!Plan

Yes, without a doubt the cameras are definitely speed cameras .. and don't get me wrong, I am absolutely fine with the idea of them being around, and I think we need them with the class of drivers we have on the roads these days, but not directly in front of pedestrian crossings where I think they are a real distraction ... You need to be concentrating on the upcoming crossing and nothing else. Not every driver on the road can deal with this sort of road clutter and this is how accidents happen.
I am not a fast driver by any means, but on occasions I find myself travelling 35mph in a 30mph zone. I think that is easily done, and it could easily take me 2 or 3 glances at my speedo before I know I have reached the 30mph in a careful way, and not by suddenly jamming on the brakes, and all during that time I am not fully concentrating on my surroundings ... I think this distraction is the real issue with me.Some days I wake up Grumpy ... Other days I let him lie in.0 -

Wrong, the profile is a ratio of the width, a 165/70R13 would have a profile of 115.5mm, a 195/70R13 would have a profile of 136.5mm. Difference of 21mm multiplied by 2 = 42mm difference in total diameter
Detailed explanation at http://www.jettyres.co.uk/tyre-tips/tyre-markings/
Plenty of on line calculators, speedo would be around 1 mile per hour slow at 30mph0 -
Very few pedestrian/pelican crossings have speed cameras "few feet away". They are more likely to be radar sensors to gauge the traffic flow and when to turn the lights to red. You would need to mount them at least 20+ feet away for a view of the crossing. If they protect a crossing then they are red light cameras and not speed cameras.
The public are pretty poor at identifying cameras:

whilst it is an offence. theres leeway in law that if ever stopped by poilce, you be giving a rectification pink slip giving you a period of wich to sort it out.
if ever given a speeding ticket though it holds no grounds that your speedo isnt working as it should and youll still be liable for the points.0
